  1. Looks like a steal by Breslow.
  2. Seems like Cora was just floating possible stuff out there, stuff that we latched onto hard the way we do. Bregman played no 2B in spring games.
  3. Not only that but most of his damage was against lefties. 1.044 vs. lefties, .562 against righties. He does look pretty toasty as a hitter.
  4. Funny the different attitudes there are about guys being asked to play multiple positions. Some think it's of huge benefit to the team, others hate seeing guys being "jerked around" - especially young players. If all our big 3 prospects end up playing different positions from what they played coming up, that'd really be...different.
  5. You said "Playing the worst defense at your position is not being a good teammate". Much the same thing. You did add an LOL at the end.
  6. Hand on a second. What has Breslow said or done to suggest anything like that?
  7. Not sure why you're questioning this. Cora confirmed it when he made his comments about the promises coming from previous management.
  8. So apparently the 'Raffy is pouting' thing in spring was real after all, huh?
  9. In Bello's 4 starts, the Sox are 4-0 with 32 runs scored and 7 allowed.
  10. The last few years the Red Sox seem to have been paying too much attention to another of the Greek philosophers, one of the lesser-known ones: Mediocrates. 😉
  11. Sorry to hear this, moon. I lost my mother in 1995 and my dad in 2006.
  12. OTOH the total dollar value of Panda's contract (95) was about 30% of Devers's extension (313.5).
  13. I just want to win. However they do it is fine. But the Red Sox have definitely had some well-paid free agents figure in their 4 titles this century.
  14. I know these team relief pitching stats are a bit wonky, but here goes: 2024 save % MLB avg 64% Red Sox 56% 2025 save % MLB avg 65% Red Sox 50% (8/16)
  15. If they fail, it might not hurt the players long-term - OTOH it doesn't help the team short-term. The front office might be leery of putting pressure on these guys by bringing them into a situation where the team is scuffling and fans are clamoring for a fix. That said I'm sure the front office is giving it a lot of consideration to it.
  16. Steve Cohen has taken some large operating losses on the Mets. He can afford to because he's worth over $20 billion. But you're not really guaranteed not to lose money.
  17. So what is your point, exactly? That owners like profits and salaries impact profits? I think we already know that. Not really sure what it is that you're trying to illuminate for us. "Ownership is going to get paid regardless of what players make?" What the hell does that mean? Steve Cohen has taken operating losses on the Mets. He can afford to because he's worth over $20 billion. Attitudes toward chasing rings and chasing wealth vary from one owner to the next.
  18. You're getting some stuff jumbled up here. CEO's are not necessarily owners. Sam Kennedy is the CEO of the Red Sox. I don't think his salary as CEO is higher than Rafael Devers's salary. Kennedy does have an ownership stake now, but that happened after he became CEO. So yeah, factory workers don't get paid more than the CEO, but some baseball players certainly do, so it's not a great analogy. To the larger point, the relationship among owners, players and fans is an interdependent one. They all need each other. The money flows from the fans to the owners to the players. If fans are disenchanted with the team's performance and think owners are profiteering at the expense of the team, the best case scenario is they're going to gripe about it, the worst is they're going to lose interest. Here at Talksox we tend to just stick with the griping...
  19. A lot of cracks showing in the bullpen though. Feels pretty scary right now.
  20. Hard to say with Slaten. This is a guy who had bad numbers in the minors, with a 5.35 ERA and 1.50 WHIP in 210 innings. Bailey might have helped him a lot in 2024, but there's only so much he can do.
  21. Rafaela plays an excellent CF though. I think the most logical move is to trade Abreu - hopefully getting back something really worthwhile - which opens up RF for Anthony.
  22. July 31 is a long wait to do something about the bullpen.
