  1. Correa, Seager, Bryant and Scherzer were all on WS winning teams.
  2. Wow, that's pretty crazy money - an AAV of $35 mill.
  3. Anyone who wouldn't want Max Scherzer on their team is insane, of course, but I fear the amount of money he'll command may be too. And the Dodgers are just the team to pay it, with Kershaw probably not coming back.
  4. That's it, no more arguing from me on this topic, it's a little too political. I respect and understand the views of those who are opposed to this. I think in the final analysis it's one of those "majority rules" issues.
  5. The thing is, you're dealing with the vagaries of the baseball payroll system, with its built-in hefty instant raises. I did a comparison not long ago between E-Rod and Stroman. It showed that Stroman's pitching fWAR per inning is about 5% better. But E-Rod is also 22 months younger. Anyway, you're right that the question is whether that chunk of money could be spent better or not. Hard to say. Glad Bloom is the one who has to make the calls.
  6. OK, but we're also allowed to look at whether it's fair to expect a sliding baseball cleat to maintain perfect contact with a canvas bag. It's not a serious issue like the one with balls and strikes.
  7. Fast enough that you couldn't see it with the naked eye.
  8. If the runner slides into the base, yes. You're only safe if you momentarily lose contact with the bag after hitting it.
  9. May have to call the grammar cops on that one...
  10. In that case he has to call time out, I guess, the same as they do now.
  11. The Braves beat the 106 win Dodgers in 6, and the Astros in 6. It's a very legit win.
  12. Must be an extremity, foot or hand. Camera or sensors underneath or in the bag will be used.
  13. A quiet $825 K!
  14. Thanks. This rule needs to be re-written too, methinks. I mean, home plate isn't even a square, or rectangular shape - it's a rectangle and a triangle stuck together. , or an "irregular pentagon", that tapers to a point. Not ideal.
  15. And now a question regarding the strike zone. Does it actually say in the rule book that the strike zone is based on the entire surface of home plate, or is it only the front line of the plate? If it's only the front of the plate, that would make robo calls of balls and strikes much simpler.
  16. And the going rate for other DH's.
  17. Which makes it even friendlier.
  18. We wouldn't even be talking about this if it wasn't for the super-high-res-stop-action shots of guys whose shoe separates from the bag by a millimeter for a nanosecond.
  19. The 100% team-friendly contract is pretty rare. Bogaerts's contract was team-friendly in terms of the total dollar value, but the opt-out after 3 years was player-friendly.
  20. The idea that if the foot is still over the bag the guy is safe makes sense to me.
  21. The arb raises we have seen in recent years negate the '6 years of cheap control' premise. Here's Renfroe, who was a good deal in 2021, suddenly looking like a questionable investment for 2022 and maybe even a non-tender candidate. Which raises the question of where the scale of arb salaries come from. Is it in the CBA?
  22. What I would say is that JD proved again in 2021 that he's a pretty consistent .900 OPS guy. The only numbers working against him are the ones on his birth certificate.
  23. Yes, that was Phase 2 of the Crapshoot Enhancement Program.
  24. I do remember there was some chatter here about signing him.
