    Ben spent over $330 million in one off-season. As I say, I'm not sure which of the two spent more on new contracts/extensions without checking. I think it's pretty close.

    There is one other factor with keeping Xander, which is that there's a chance 2022 doesn't go as well as expected for him for one reason or another, and the opt-out becomes less certain.

    Personally, I would: -Keep Xander for 2022 and take the draft pick. -Sign Devers for 8 years @ whatever it takes.

    Ha ha here we go again. Dombrowski was by no means fully responsible for that quarter of a billion. And a lot of the dead money came from Ben.

    Personally I don't think either Bogey or Devers should make $30 million. That's what Mookie makes.

    Richards' total cost was $10 mill - $8.5 mill salary plus 1.5 mill buyout of option. You do need to be an accountant to figure out some of this stuff.

    We were already on the hook for 16 mill to Price, so it would have been an additional 15 mill.

    You get $30M of talent that may or may not perform up to it.

    Right, so you gain $25-30M but you lose Mookie Betts. Whether that's a good thing depends on how Mookie holds up.

    Urquidy has a projected 2022 fWAR of 1.5. Not very exciting. His peripherals, especially FIP, don't look that good. There are reasons he's only equal value.

    Good question. When it's equal value, picking which is better is like trying to beat the Vegas NFL point spreads...

    One could say that, but Verdugo's price goes up too, so I don't think it's quite that simple. And it tends to diminish the loss of Hall of Fame talent.

    Yes, but as I've said, I don't think Bogaerts would bring back talent resembling Verdugo. I think we actually got more than equal value with Verdugo. If you get back truly equal value, by definition you haven't gained a thing.
