  1. And what really bothers me is that it's a corrupt process - guys as bad as Diaz and Bellino should not be doing postseason games, but they are, and it's always been that way.
  2. Donnie Sadler's issues with Jerry have to do with Jerry's son Jared murdering his girlfriend and possible "enabling" by Jerry.
  3. And this exemplifies why I think it's time for the robo umps. Getting 10% of the calls in a playoff game wrong is horrendous-especially when, as you say, a lot of the 90% called right are gimmes.
  4. Well, at least we're ragging on the right guys!
  5. Your reliance on fWAR for catchers is almost as bad as moon's reliance on CERA.
  6. A certified physical freak for sure.
  7. Not necessarily, for more than one reason.
  8. Interesting perhaps that Eovaldi did well in his 3 starts with Wong behind the plate. So Wong could be his personal catcher in 2022. It all "dovetails"!
  9. I'll place my bet on Vazquez and Wong.
  10. In 1972 Wilbur Wood pitched 376.2 innings.
  11. I don't know of any stories about Tek turning down a good offer. Boras's asking price was just ridiculous.
  12. Renfroe's bad 2021 postseason consisted of 11 games. FWIW, in the first 9 of those games he actually had a .368 OBP.
  13. Very sad news. RIP Jerry.
  14. All I can say is that from my interactions with Denny, he's a reasonable fellow, a little old school, but not someone who would actually approve of death threats of any sort. Back in the day "kill the ump" was considered to be funny. I preferred mildly clever insults like "Hey ref, open your eyes, you're missing a good game!"
  15. Will Cashman try to pay us back for Whitlock?
  16. I'm much more into WAR than I am into defense as an isolated value. The 2021 JBJ is an example of a player whose defensive contributions are destroyed by offensive ineptitude to the point that you sit them on the bench for the playoffs.
  17. Greinke has pitched very little the last 2 months. Here are the dates he pitched: Aug 29 Sep 14 Sep 19 Oct 3 2.1 IP 28 pitches Oct 10 1.0/21 Oct 19 1.1/37 Oct 30 4.0/58 He was obviously far from 100% and not really stretched out to go far last night.
  18. A Gold Glove nomination is small consolation for Bradley and the Brewers. JBJ: a) hit .163 with 6 HR and 29 RBI had a -0.7 bWAR and -0.8 fWAR c) was benched for the NLDS
  19. To be fair, in Denny's (dgalehouse's) experience, when you said 'kill the ump', you didn't mean it literally.
  20. I really don't believe that most fans enjoy outcomes that seem tainted by bad calls. Just imagine if the umps didn't get the call right on the A-Rod slap play, and the Yankees ended up winning that game. Fortunately that was one time they were able to fix the call without replay. Those umps did an amazing job. But it could have easily gone the other way.
  21. I've noticed that you take winning very seriously, though. You chide other posters for saying things like "it was a successful season even though we didn't win it all," saying that's a loser's attitude or whatever. I guess it's all a matter of personal perspectives.
  22. Well, there is a tradeoff-now we don't have to wait for the Earl Weaver/Lou Piniella style tantrums to play out.
  23. I do agree that the union should be working on behalf of everyone, not just the stars. With regard to the minimum wage, I can see them pushing for an increase, but I don't think it's realistic to be looking to double it.
  24. Everybody who's good enough and durable enough gets their shot at free agency if that's what they want.
