    Can't trust any pitchers any more. Not a one. If they haven't had TJS they're due for it.

    Of course. But getting burned when you spend happens to every team that spends. Including the much-lauded Dodgers, who are paying large sums to Snell and Glasnow to rehab.

    I distinctly remember that when I heard Devers's comments about the situation in that press conference, my first post was "Wow, they may have to trade him."

    Nope. I was happy with how he was hitting and I stuck up for Cora's handling of the situation, but I was worried about the lingering clubhouse drama. When the team pulled the trigger on trading him I was comfortable that they were doing it because it was something they had to do.

    It's good if you want the team to spend, which has been the biggest point of frustration Sox fans have had the last few years.

    Cora is obviously doing a brilliant job guiding the team through this period of turmoil and getting them back in the hunt by taking 9 of 12 from the Yanks, Rays and Mariners.

    If we could get an OPS of say .790 from the DH spot with that platoon, that would be good - it'd still be a loss of 70-80 points from Devers, of course.

    I criticized them heavily the last few years too. But they have done some spending lately. Crochet, Bregman, Buehler, extensions for kids, even the extension for Cora. I'm calling it right now - this trade will be a big win for the Sox and a big loss for the Giants.

    Another fine article, Maddie. I like that you're not afraid to write stuff we may not want to hear. Personally I'm going to judge Breslow mainly on results. In a way this makes me glad that we have a very 'human' manager with Cora.

    Possibly. Or Raffy might be giving the Red Sox the middle finger, too, right? Remember Nomar grinning and saying his ankle was great right after the Red Sox traded him.

    So taking the sarcasm route, nice. We're pretty tolerant here but there are limits, too. It's up to you if you want to stick around or not.

    It didn't help that Raffy was so convinced all along that he actually was a good defensive third baseman. He WAS a good defensive third baseman compared to the general population, but not compared to other MLBers at the position.

    Max, sometimes the pitchers win the games for you, sometimes the hitters do, sometimes it's a combo. Over the long haul you need all those kinds of wins. And it's ever been thus in this wacky and wonderful game.

    Manny Ramirez has also taken Devers's side. Could have a beauty roundtable discussion with those three.

    Yes, there were and still are some posters who agreed with not paying Mookie what he wanted and/or thought what he really wanted was out of town. Zack Scott, who was in the Sox FO back then, has said very firmly that Mookie would absolutely have stayed if they paid what he thought was market value, that there were never any indications that Mookie 'wanted out'.

    Agreed. Now that the dust has settled and our offense has been dealt a blow, Brez and company have more work to do, hopefully they're up to it.
