Maximum total escalation is $4 million per year.
  2. Not really. We tacked on two years of control.
  3. No, it's better than that. The Red Sox have team options for 2027 and 2028, which would be his first two years of free agency. And the buyouts for the two years are small. You have to dig into the details of it.
  4. There wasn't a whole lot of risk in trading for Manaea, though.
  5. That's the truth.
  6. Now that is spoken by a seasoned baseball fan!
  7. The Red Sox have now lost 8 regular season games in a row to the Yanks. Fortunately we had a playoff win wedged in there LOL The Red have lost 5 games in a row going back to last year's ALCS.
  8. Shaughnessy actually passed on an interesting piece of trivia in yesterday's column (which he got from Tyler Kepner of the NYT). The 'golden pitch'! The golden pitch is a pitch that could either win or lose a World Series. 8 pitchers have thrown one: Christy Mathewson, NY Giants, 1912, Loss (to the Red Sox-in the 8th game!) Grover Cleveland Alexander, Cardinals, 1926, Win Ralph Terry, Yankees, 1962, Win Rollie Fingers, A's, 1972, Win Jose Mesa, Guardians, 1997, Loss Mariano Rivera, Yankees, 2001, Loss Madison Bumgarner, Giants, 2014, Win Mike Montgomery, Cubs, 2016, Win
  9. The Yanks have outpitched the Sox in the two games. And Boone has been surprisingly sharp with the changes.
  10. We'll probably revisit it every game he pitches. It's what we do!
  11. Still no excuse for sloppy work.
  12. Both wrong. Our bullpen did not pitch 6 innings. They pitched 5 innings, or "5 innings plus", as it's sometimes put.
  13. I bumped the 'Barnes Extended' thread for your perusal.
  14. Bumped to revisit reactions!
  15. I was just kidding about all the parsing.
  16. Most liked it at the time.
  17. Some other team probably offered Diekman 2 years and $7.5 million. My disappointment was not signing McHugh for a couple mill more.
  18. He may have been. But as soon as the game is tied the whole equation changes.
  19. That was the classic game that either team could have won. We needed to score another run in the 10th. King did a fine job. He's good.
  20. I can't argue. Trading a couple of prospects for Manaea would have made sense to me too.
  21. You do have a vicious streak LOL
  22. Going into yesterday's game, DJ had a career OPS of .707 against the Red Sox, and 5 homers in 306 PA's. So it's not like he's been teeing off on us.
  23. Frivolous is a good word for it.
  24. I guess it's because saves and blown saves seem like simple stats. Denny is not wrong that having a strong bullpen and preserving leads are important, more than ever. But the stats themselves are f**d up.
  25. There's a lot of random crap involved in it, too. In the 10th inning the Yankees pen gave up one run and we gave up one run, but we get the blown save. Why? Because the game was in their park.
