  1. I can definitely live with a Houston-Philly World Series. No Yankees No Dodgers No Rays No Jays
  2. https://www.talksox.com/forum/threads/20579-Smiley-Beni-Day-2022
  3. The postseason is not a crapshoot. The postseason has elements of a crapshoot.
  4. If I get a chance I will post some delightful comments from Yankee fans.
  5. Congratulations Phillies. And congratulations Dave Dombrowski. Looks like one of his best moves ever was replacing Girardi in-season.
  6. You still haven't explained why Vaz has sucked and been a let-down for Houston.
  7. Fred Flintstone is a pretty solid citizen as far as cartoon characters go...
  8. I think the real criticism there is that, with the season on the line, Boone went to Trivino, who is basically #4 on the Yankees bullpen depth chart, instead of Loaisiga, Peralta or Holmes. And that seems to be indicative of Boone's sometimes questionable judgement with his pitching moves.
  9. Did you think Houston expected him to become their #1 catcher? I don't. I think they wanted a capable, experienced backup for their title run. He sure seemed to do an OK job yesterday! Caught a 3-hit shutout, threw out a runner and chipped in a 2-RBI single.
  10. Red Sox pitchers had a 6.33 ERA and an .874 OPS against throwing to McGuire, BTW... Those are not typos.
  11. Does it show Vaz sucked? That's the question.
  12. You're basing all this on his .585 OPS in 108 PA's?
  13. You somehow missed that Nomar was a pale shadow of his former self from 2004 on. Get a superstar for him? That's just funny.
  14. Bello, Mata, Houck?
  15. This take seems a little over the top. I don't think anyone expected Vaz to be anything other than their back-up catcher. The fact he caught yesterday's game shows they have some confidence in him.
  16. Guesses on how much Vogelbach will get?
  17. Here's a good piece by Bob Ryan on Nomar's exit, that's very favorable to Nomar in many regards. http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/articles/2004/08/03/who_was_hustling_in_all_this
  18. The allegations, of course, are that Nomar initially lied about the cause and severity of the injury. That's where it started. It led to suspicion he was jerking the team around because he was pissed about the contract situation.
  19. Sure, and the trade for Roberts would be even more forgotten.
  20. Yes, it all starts with the injury and the mystery about how and when it happened. Nomar said he got hit by a ball in batting practice before an exhibition game, but no one else remembered seeing it happen.
  21. Well, whether the stories are all true or not, I can't say, but that's exactly what Nomar was accused of being in 2004 - selfish.
  22. DJ especially was a huge loss.
  23. It shouldn't be a boring winter for Red Sox fans. Bloom will be under the spotlight more than any other exec in baseball.
  24. And remarkably enough, the guy who was to be traded for the wonder boy, Manny Ramirez (along with Jon Lester, reportedly), didn't get upset about it and had another great season. It was a mere $12 million shortfall that may have radically altered Red Sox history.
  25. I think the most reliable evidence that Nomar was hurting the team was that they traded him, and got back another shortstop who was obviously not nearly as good a hitter.
