I get what you're saying, and I don't think this is something they really wanted to do. I think Raffy's attitude was the reason this happened.

Which can easily be characterized as covering for his player. If anything Cora seems to have gone out of his way to put a good light on Devers throughout all this.

How can you say that without knowing what went on behind the scenes? I think Cora probably felt a little betrayed by Raffy's non-hustle. When did Cora ever bad-mouth Devers or anything like that?

I don't think there were many buyers on those two. That was the biggest salary dump of all time.

Disagree. Devers did NOT have much trade value. DH's making $31 million a year for the next 8 years just don't.

Well, it's primarily a salary dump, no doubt about that. At least there's some possible value in the return.

San Fran wanted to close on this. They wanted him in their lineup ASAP. Takes two to make a deal.

Raffy iced it by not running to first base and making his manager have to cover for him. I suspect that was when Cora may have come on board with trading him.

I'm a little surprised at how many are backing Devers. He refused to play first base, he didn't hustle down the line, he's making $31 million a year, he's the good guy?

The reported eye roll was when Devers didn't run to first.

Looks to me like they did OK, frankly, shedding the whole contract and getting back some pitching and prospects.

I just don't believe this is something the team actually wanted to do. I think Raffy made this happen.

I'm a little surprised by how negative a lot of people are feeling about the team today. They just won 7 out of 9 against the Yankees and Rays.

We're all guessing, but it seems possible it may have been a factor in them pulling the trigger on the trade.

I feel no angst about this at all. Raffy really lost me. I know the Sox screwed up some stuff too, but I'm afraid he really proved who was in the wrong with his non-hustle. That was confirmation that there were always going to be issues.
