  1. Fair enough.
  2. We all come at it from our own biased perspective. I'm biased against Devers because I think he was in the wrong for making such a huge issue out of changing positions. And then we had the not running hard to first base thing, which we never got any satisfactory explanation for.
  3. Papi needs to let it go now. I just think it's quite possible he was only trying to help and he got frustrated. We'll never know all the details.
  4. They don't have lifetime contracts like Cash. Henry is a tough boss, Hal is not.
  5. Does seem questionable, I had to look it up to see if there's any explanation. Sure enough, Detmers has reverse splits, career .774 vs lefty hitters and .748 vs righties. So I can understand Cora thinking it made sense to let Anthony hit there. Probably also trying to show some confidence in the kid. Results sucked of course.
  6. The Sox team ERA is 3.98, there are 3 teams at 5 or over, so yes, there are worse. The 2025 Sox are a painfully frustrating team, though, that's for sure.
  7. You really have no idea that Ortiz wasn't just legit trying to help or that Devers wasn't a jerk about it. But those possibilities don't fit the narrative, so let's just tear down Ortiz, character and all. Everybody that was on the 2003 list of names that had a positive test got a free pass for it, as far as I know.
  8. And Sox fans are very grateful to Cashman for only delivering 1 title in the last 24 seasons.
  9. Frankly I'm fine with him just hitting one dinger in the series! Over the 3 games it was kind of a wash. He hurt us with that one at-bat, but he didn't kill us. He was 0 for 5 in the game we won. He was 2 for 12 in the 3 games. His OPS dropped 10 points in the 3 games.
  10. B-R is a little kinder to Story at 1.0.
  11. It might be a little ironic that trying to upgrade the defense led indirectly to the Sox losing their best hitter. And the defense is still a problem.
  12. The Red Sox just gave up another pile of unearned runs on the weekend. The Sox have allowed .61 unearned runs per game. The MLB average is .31 per game. Seems like...double. That can't be good. The Red Sox are tied with the Rockies for worst Fielding Percentage in MLB at .977. I can see that the Sox grade better in some of the advanced defensive metrics that are based on range and all that good stuff. I will leave that part to our resident Captain Nemo level data divers. I can see both sides of the fielding debate we've had here. I agree that range is a huge factor. But I also think plain old muffed plays can be pretty important too. So basically just a thread for anything at all about fielding.
  13. And our Big 3 are providing fresh evidence that hitting at the ML level is really freakin' hard.
  14. I'm not trying to sugarcoat anything, danny. Trust me, I've been doing my fair share of complaining here since Henry lost his marbles in 2019. Trading Betts and all the new approach crap has generally been a catastrophe. I'm fine with losing Devers, though. It was a bad contract and he had a bad attitude.
  15. Seems like we're still the Maestros of Mediocrity.
  16. And they scored 15 runs in their last 5 games WITH Devers. And they scored 14 runs in their last 3 games WITHOUT Devers. Losing Devers hurts the offense, but little cherry-picked samples don't tell us anything.
  17. You have to be kidding. You're the one cherry picking by leaving out Hamilton's defensive value and his speed value.
  18. Let's not forget that the first 2 problems in the whole sequence of problems were: 1) Devers's defensive play at 3B had some of the worst ratings in MLB over a period of years. 2) In spite of 1) Devers believed he was a good defensive player and saw no reason why he should change position.
  19. I care about the effect on the clubhouse. Do you think there's no such thing as negative clubhouse effects?
  20. I didn't say it was meaningless. But saying he 'beat the Yanks', that's over the top.
  21. OK, but it's chump change in the big picture, roughly 10% of Devers's contract.
  22. Let's not get carried away - he didn't 'beat the Yanks'.
