  1. There's also base running of course. Ortiz and most DHs are big slow guys.
  2. Max, anybody could have replaced the Casas who started the season in a horrible slump, but that's not really the point. First of all the hope was that Casas would get it going again, the way players often do. Second, most teams have good hitters at first base so if you don't, that's a disadvantage. The good news is that Breslow seems to have a very nice pick out of the trash heap with Toro.
  3. I have to disagree with the first sentence. I think WAR treats DH's fairly because they only play half the game. By the same token the highest WAR a closer has ever had is probably around 4. 6 WAR is huge for a DH. Also, 6 WAR on the free agent market costs about 50 million on average, so obviously I don't disagree about prime Papi being worth a ton of coin.
  4. I'd call it disrespectful to say the least to brush off a team legend who's trying to give some advice. Unfortunately that seems to be Raffy's way. And I'm really surprised by it. I was a big fan of Raffy's before this.
  5. My blame pie is 80-85% Devers, and I don't really care who gets the rest of it.
  6. I think Ortiz's comments are pretty telling. He says he tried to reach out to Devers many times and Devers was just not receptive. I see no reason why David would make something like that up.
  7. Knowing what we know now, I for one am dubious that there was any way that Raffy wasn't going to be unhappy about this.
  8. And there's a pretty good chance that Raffy would just hear this as GM-speak for "We're looking to replace you at third."
  9. Well, they did put 313.5 million dollars of guaranteed money in Devers's pocket with the extension.
  10. The problem with being upfront is that they might not have succeeded in signing Bregman and might have needed Devers to stay at third.
  11. Like I said his job is to get the best results. Toro and Gonzalez have been doing fine. We have zero idea if the disciplinarian approach would have worked. I tend to doubt it, myself, given Devers's behavior. The fact they traded Devers tends to confirm that ownership and management thought the relationship was just broken.
  12. I think Cora may have read the situation correctly that the best thing was to try to keep Devers happy as DH and not try to force the 1B thing, which Raffy was obviously resisting. I don't call it being afraid, I call it trying to get the best results. That's Cora's job.
  13. Have you given up on the playoffs for 2025?
  14. Never said anything like that.
  15. I feel much the same, but I'd also like to see him in the lineup as DH soon, possibly in a platoon with Refsnyder and/or Gonzalez.
  16. What would you like players to say right now about the situation? Is there anything anyone can say that will do anyone any good?
  17. The Sox pitching is what's mainly responsible for this current run. The Sox have 6 wins in a row in spite of only scoring 17 runs in those games. I have no idea if it will continue. It's baseball. At least things are interesting again.
  18. Bregman was and is their best player, and the Sox are on this run without him.
