    Yes, there were questions about trading Sale right from the start. I went back and checked the thread. All the real old schoolers here hated it. My first post expressed approval because I thought it meant big starter acquisitions were on the way. But I was questioning it within a few days. It's all there in the Talksox archives.

    Price helped win a ring, for some that counts a lot...and I'm in that group. Dombrowski's primary job was to win a ring IMHO. He got it done.

    That's a pretty large number to be tossing around. You think our runs scored is going to go down by 25%?

    They low-balled Lester on the extension offer. They offered him $145 million as a free agent. The Cubs upped it by $20 million and that was it.

    That "philosophy" lasted about 5 minutes, unless you believe the Sox were just playing PR with their free agent offers to Lester.

    The baseball free agent market is an irrational market. Was Soto "worth" more than double Mookie Betts?

    Yes, there are 3 teams in notable offensive funks right now: -Red Sox -Yankees -The team that's playing against the Red Sox It's strange because June is usually a good hitters month. But that's baseball.

    Can't trust any pitchers any more. Not a one. If they haven't had TJS they're due for it.

    Of course. But getting burned when you spend happens to every team that spends. Including the much-lauded Dodgers, who are paying large sums to Snell and Glasnow to rehab.

    I distinctly remember that when I heard Devers's comments about the situation in that press conference, my first post was "Wow, they may have to trade him."

    Nope. I was happy with how he was hitting and I stuck up for Cora's handling of the situation, but I was worried about the lingering clubhouse drama. When the team pulled the trigger on trading him I was comfortable that they were doing it because it was something they had to do.

    It's good if you want the team to spend, which has been the biggest point of frustration Sox fans have had the last few years.

    Cora is obviously doing a brilliant job guiding the team through this period of turmoil and getting them back in the hunt by taking 9 of 12 from the Yanks, Rays and Mariners.

    If we could get an OPS of say .790 from the DH spot with that platoon, that would be good - it'd still be a loss of 70-80 points from Devers, of course.

    I criticized them heavily the last few years too. But they have done some spending lately. Crochet, Bregman, Buehler, extensions for kids, even the extension for Cora. I'm calling it right now - this trade will be a big win for the Sox and a big loss for the Giants.

    It's nothing like Betts because Raffy is nothing like Betts - IMHO.
