  1. It's the John Henry 4 Year Plan.
  2. Chaim and the spreadsheet gang have concluded that all starting pitchers are too risky, so we're good.
  3. I'm down with that, but my faith is shattered so I'm not really expecting it. Based on recent history they are just not going to meet Raffy's price, which means the correct move is to trade him.
  4. I can't answer that, but if Bloom had made a few better moves for 2022 or we had less injuries they might have made the playoffs again.
  5. They said the goal was re-build while competing. It worked in 2021.
  6. By which metric?
  7. Maybe they've already decided that Houck is in the 2023 rotation, not the pen.
  8. The Mets can't possibly re-set next year, unless we're talking 1998 Marlins tear-down. Their projected 2024 tax payroll is $245 million already, without doing a thing.
  9. We seem to have reached the point that making a blockbuster trade for a starter would be foolish.
  10. The penalties are pretty harsh as they are. But Cohen has decided to thumb his nose at them and buy a championship even if it costs half a billion or more. It could be a problem.
  11. In this case we're not going to know until we see the guy play.
  12. Exactly.
  13. I would submit that the real mistake was going over the cap at the start of the season, and that's where the trade for JBJ comes into the conversation.
  14. Maybe. But it could lead to a hard cap, too.
  15. I think it remains to be seen if McGuire is an upgrade.
  16. We need to stop re-litigating last year's trade deadline. Those who said fire sale have been proven to be right. I still don't fault the team for not doing it. What's done is done.
  17. The "we'll pay you $10 million for one year" part may have had something to do with it.
  18. Because part of being a HOBO is being a politician.
  19. You nailed it pretty well here.
  20. Yes, there's plenty to worry about.
  21. I would love to know what John Henry is thinking right now. He decided to exercise fiscal restraint at the same time that Cohen and Steinbrenner and the Phillies and the Padres and the Rangers decided to go on spending sprees like the end of the world is nigh.
  22. And every dollar they spend now is actually two dollars. And Steve Cohen don't care. He's like a guy who's already committed so many crimes that one more doesn't matter.
  23. That's for sure. I really wasn't expecting this offseason. It's been awful. Losing Bogaerts like we did, still no starting pitchers added while other teams are signing them on a daily basis. I'm kind of in shock.
  24. Weren't there concerns about the stress playing short would put on Story's arm as well? The guy adapted well to second. He seemed like a good fit there and the injury concerns were lessened. Now Bloom wants to put him right back at short. I'm scratching my head, man.
  25. I already said I have zero faith in him right now, especially after what he said about Story. The only thing I can figure is that they've decided to punt this year after all. What's really bad is punting or tanking is looking like a better idea all the time.
