  1. But DRS is only one component of UZR. It's no wonder old schoolers share their head at defensive metrics.
  2. Elvis please. And no Elvis impersonators.
  3. You don't think it make some sense to give Duran a shot last year?
  4. Bloom is just trying to convince Andrus we don't need him that much.
  5. Yeah, not a big deal one way or the other.
  6. Doesn't seem right. Yoshida is 29 and costing us $105 mill.
  7. Classing Yoshida as a prospect is questionable, I guess.
  8. What do your calculations show?
  9. Tortoise keeps moving!
  10. Do you think they ask pitchers for their preference? Seems to me defensive considerations should outweigh offensive considerations...
  11. Why not, exactly? That's the way Chaim sees it too. The more uncertainty and surprises the better. It's a Fun House approach.
  12. So we'll be having tryouts at catcher, to go with all the various question marks about middle infield and outfield positions. Chaim really likes to have fun with it.
  13. Moral of the Story: Stay away from injury-discounted contracts!
  14. Tony Ruiz was #30, so we actually got 2 in the top 50.
  15. The world's most polite trash talker.
  16. Mets get 3 of the top 50. That don't seem right! Anyway, I'm sure the Red Sox have their own ratings.
  17. Because run-scoring actually is important. Putting it as far down on the list of needs as you're doing seems totally arbitrary to me. We lost Bogey and JD. We had to replace their offense. If we acquire a SS now, as hopefully we will, it won't be an offensive shortstop like Bogey, that much seems certain.
  18. As far as Yoshida and Turner are concerned, if they both hit like Bloom is hoping, I have no problem with spending 29 mill in AAV on them. Run-scoring still matters...
  19. Well, I completely disagree with the methodology you're using, of calculating percentages based on the total contract dollars. If it was me I would only use the 2023 AAV's.
  20. Personally I'm assuming that Bloom isn't done yet, but there's certainly a lot of potential for head-scratching alright.
  21. Bogey's deal with the Padres was actually announced within hours after the Yoshida signing. But I think the Yoshida signing was going to happen regardless. They scouted this guy for years. Sure hope they were right!
  22. All I can really say is that the Story signing and the Sale extension were very similar moves. Red flags did exist, we thought the red flags were an acceptable risk, and we were wrong.
  23. I'd say the replacement for Abreu was Turner. 2023 AAV Abreu 19.5 Turner 10.85 2022 WAR Abreu fWAR 3.9 bWAR 4.2 FUBAR 4.05 Turner fWAR 2.4 bWAR 2.0 FUBAR 2.2 Yoshida was more like a wild card pick.
  24. I don't think I said that or meant to imply it, sir!
  25. Bloom is the ever-patient tortoise.
