  1. But it worked in 2021. In 2013 as well, for that matter.
  2. As much as people, including me, have brought up the idea that they're punting 2023, we know that's not the actual intention, because there's no way you sign a closer for 2/32 if it is. So there will be more moves, but Bloom will continue to torture us like the Marquis de Sade for a while yet.
  3. And since a million things would have to go right for the 2023 team to compete, it doesn't seem like the time anyway...
  4. But he's also paying one guy $360 million, one $324 million, one $220 million, one $162 million... Does that mean John Henry likes the money even more?
  5. Hal knows he has to compete with Cohen, so he's probably not going to bother re-setting anymore either...
  6. And if instead they choose Old Red's third fork in the road and do nothing but watch him depart, it will be the final straw of ineptitude for the current FO.
  7. When you look at the MLBTR feed it's like someone is having fun with the Sox. Yesterday we had "Red Sox Interested in JD Martinez Reunion" followed shortly by "JD Martinez to Sign With Dodgers" Maybe the Sox were interested in the reunion of JD with Betts...
  8. Bloom is great at working on the fringes... He just seems incredibly passive when it comes to the big moves.
  9. Chaim's Tortoise and the Hare act this offseason will really come under intense scrutiny if they don't do something soon. Players are flying off the shelves this Christmas at Ball-Mart, even at jacked-up prices.
  10. We've still got two of our main setup men from 2018, Denny - Brasier and Barnes.
  11. Of course, just because we have reported interest in JD, I wouldn't pencil him into our 2023 lineup just yet.
  12. Lots of time left. But not many players.
  13. Must be planning for Yoshida to play LF.
  14. No, but it means he doesn't want to.
  15. Because he wouldn't pay Mookie what he wanted. Because he wouldn't pay luxury tax 3 years in a row. Because Trevor Story is the biggest signing since he hired Bloom. Because Price's contract is now #22 on the list of biggest contracts.
  16. Beni's 2.8 fWAR/3.2 bWAR in 2022 WAS a rebound, don't you think?
  17. But if he plays this year without an extension, he does run the risk of injury or having an off season, and seeing his value go down.
  18. I would also argue that the Red Sox needed to sign a free agent starter, because as it stands our rotation is made up of kids (Whitlock, Houck, Bello), major injury risks (Sale, Paxton), and guys who may or may not be major league pitchers. We still desperately need to sign someone like Eovaldi, Kluber, Wacha...I'm assuming a blockbuster trade ain't happening.
  19. And the #1 and #2 guys on the list were old guy Scherzer and Robbie Ray.
  20. Most of us seem to be aboard the Devers/Andrus/Eovaldi or Kluber wagon now...
  21. We have no idea until the guy faces MLB pitching.
  22. But you have to compare them to previous years' lists. See moon's lists above for starters.
  23. To me this year actually looked pretty decent for starting pitchers. Pricey as heck, but that goes without saying.
  24. I'll drink to that.
