    There are some weird comments there. Other teams are handing out deals in the hundreds of millions, and the Red Sox are the ones taking "huge risks" with Jansen and Turner? Not very logical.

    Agreed. But it's pure luck. Put it this way, the odds are that the team will not benefit from it, only the player.

    So now the Dodgers have 2 key members of the 2018 champion Red Sox. And the Red Sox have 2 key members of the 2020 champion Dodgers.

    The only reported offer to Bogey prior to reaching free agency was the $30 million bump. It's been reported extensively and never refuted, so I'm assuming it's accurate.

    And 2013 had the classic example of Shane Victorino, who exceeded expectations greatly for one year and helped win a World Series, and then was useless the last two years of his contract.

    Fans want it all. We won the WS in 2018 and fans bitched all through 2019, blaming Cora for the pitchers not being ready for the season etc. Fans never stay happy for long.

    Unfortunately I find it quite credible. We know that this team sets values and doesn't stray far from them.

    I think Bloom has a new narrative all set to go: If you're going to lock guys up, do it early or not at all. So as notin suggested earlier, we may see extension offers to Bello and Casas.

    I think what he's talking about is ownership's failure (to retain elite and popular players like Betts and Bogaerts).

    This is very different from the Story signing. Turner is 38, he DH'd a lot last year, and this contract only guarantees the Red Sox have him for one year.

    Agree about RF. Bloom did say he was getting a starting pitcher, so we'll see if he's a man of his word on that...

    Turner will DH, can play some 1B and spell Devers at 3B. It's not a bad signing. Maybe we'll get a big finish to the offseason. One can dream.
