  1. I firmly believe this team has a strong chance to end up with a worse record than last year's 78-84. Can Bloom possibly survive that?
  2. We're dead meat, let's face it. Sale will be gone a while and there's no pitching help coming. What you see is what you get. Ort is back, though.
  3. They really are, and I was one of the ones who mocked them for the big deals to Seager and Semien.
  4. Jays sweep Mets. O's winning. If Yanks win we'll be 5 out of the last WC spot. Good times.
  5. Refsnyder just signed a contract extension.
  6. It's because they don't have any better options.
  7. Whatever you want to call it, it's a fact that different umpires have different strike zones. Maybe not intentionally, but that's beside the point.
  8. And another brilliant start for Eovaldi.
  9. Houck should be in the bullpen, and he would be, if Bloom didn't forget to upgrade the rotation.
  10. Does all this mean the Red Sox 2023 rotation isn't a problem?
  11. Sorry, gotta disagree again. The first baseball team that really captured my attention was the 1965 Dodgers, and it was because of Koufax and Drysdale. In 1966 the Birds won the Series with some incredible pitching by Palmer, McNally et al. 1967, Bob Gibson almost single-handedly won the Series against the Sox. 1968 was the Year of the Pitcher. And Mickey Lolich was the Series hero. 1969, the Mets, Seaver and Koosman. The great Sox teams of the late 70's had Tiant, Eckersley... I could go on and on.
  12. True, but we're looking up at the Yankees, even with their ridiculous number of injuries.
  13. His elbow issues with Colorado only started in his last year with them, I think, by which time they probably didn't care much any more...
  14. Major red flag. And then after last year they wanted to move him back to shortstop. It's kind of bordering on buffoonery...
  15. Yes, but San Diego got him for a lot less. They got him for the kind of deal Bloom should have loved.
  16. The defense is also vastly worse without Bogey and Mookie. We're now a team that has to score 6 runs to win. Maybe that's what Bloom had in mind.
  17. The $140 million we invested in Story is not exactly paying big dividends. We got 1/2 a season from him and who knows if he'll ever be fully healthy again.
  18. Which might make sense if our top prospects were pitchers, but they sure as hell aren't.
  19. They did offer Eflin 3 for 40, but in a cruel irony, he goes to the f'ing Rays for the same money. And of course it was the Rays who let Kluber go. So they beat us twice.
  20. I'm sure it was, but WTF are we doing confining ourselves to one year deals for starting pitchers?
  21. I still don't get it, going that cheap on upgrading the rotation, after the lavish outlays for Story, Yoshida and Devers.
  22. I think the real Ted Williams Story would be compelling, but also dark and tragic. Ted's relationship with Red Sox fans and media was so damaged that he famously wouldn't acknowledge the cheering when he homered in his final game. Yaz also had a turbulent relationship with Red Sox fans and media, but he left on a much more uplifting note with his tour around the field pressing the flesh with the crowd.
  23. The injury risk with Eovaldi is significant, no question. But in the 3 seasons prior to 2022, Kluber only pitched 116 innings. And he's not exactly a youngster. So he was hardly without risk. And Eovaldi had a lot more upside, I don't think anyone can argue about that.
  24. First of all, the point about JD is a valid one. Nobody clamored to have him back. But then you had to add in names like Bogaerts and Wacha, which turned this into total ********. Hardly anyone blamed Bogaerts for last year, not sure anyone was happy to lose him. And Wacha, the guy with the 11-2 record and 3.32 ERA? Yeah, right, all of us brainless boobs thought he was a major problem and wanted his ass out of here, no matter how cheap he was! Not your best work.
  25. Every time I think of Story throwing from deep in the hole at short, I get a twinge in my elbow.
