  1. Maybe the guy on OTM hit the nail on the head. Maybe Henry and Bloom have a pact that Bloom gets 5 years to bring a plan to fruition. But of course they can't tell the fans that. It would explain a few things.
  2. Just trying to convert it to a rate stat.
  3. Over the last 3 seasons, 2021-2023, he has an accumulated fWAR of 4.3 in 320 innings. If we use 160 innings as a full season, that's 2.15 fWAR per season. That's a tick above average, a solid #3 starter.
  4. Let me ask you this: how does Wacha have an fWAR of 1.7? Is it a meaningless metric?
  5. Sounds like we have 2 bets for funsies now. 1. JD Martinez vs. Turner in fWAR 2. Wacha FIP/ERA+/injury
  6. I'd be comforted if I thought Bloom actually does have a 5 year plan, one that has a chance of working, at least.
  7. There have been a lot of defensive clown shows since Bloom took over. Generally speaking, they've moved from the outfield to the infield.
  8. True, but as far as the rotation concerned, Bloom seems to be building a bridge to nowhere. He's going to have to make a big trade or a risky signing at some point...assuming he's around to do so.
  9. That was sarcasm by me.
  10. The bargain guys who do well are only with us for one season, so that can be questioned too.
  11. I don't think we have many allowing 1 run, either.
  12. I had a sense we were in big trouble in the run prevention department the last few weeks of spring games. We were giving up 5-6 runs or more every single game.
  13. When Bloom signed him last year it was noted that Wacha finished 2021 strongly after making a change in his pitch mix.
  14. Sale extension has been a disaster. OTOH Kluber isn't doing much to make the bargain bin strategy look good.
  15. After last night Wacha has a 3.52 FIP and a 1.7 fWAR. The metrics say he's pitching well, not just lucky.
  16. Why can't we afford guys like that?
  17. Another lucky game for Wacha last night, Red.
  18. The more you look back on it, the more you realize that Duquette really set up the Sox great run after he was gone.
  19. We only trade Paxton if we're out of it, right?
  20. Don't you think Steve would be wised up by the lack of results from his massive spending spree so far?
  21. I don't think John has an inner Cohen.
  22. True, but we're still talking about the low end of the price spectrum. And Bloom must have seen enough that was encouraging in how Wacha finished in 2021.
  23. Money has to come from somewhere!
  24. And maybe most importantly, gamblers aren't getting smarter.
  25. Kind of a problem, too.
