  1. I wouldn't be surprised if he does well for the Dodgers. But this was a solid move by Bloom.
  2. The team has been playing great since the last Jays series, in spite of a crippled rotation. I think maybe Cora deserves a little credit for that. But I'm a Cora fanboy, as I've said.
  3. I meant the only way we trade Verdugo at this year's deadline. I could see him being traded in the offseason.
  4. Personally I don't think it's an apples to apples comparison. The anger about the Vaz trade was pretty mild, really, and some of it was about "the way it was done". Trading Paxton when we're in the hunt would provoke full-on outrage.
  5. The only way Dugo gets traded is if we nosedive. We don't have a logjam. Cora has done this a couple of times: Casas 1B Turner 2B Devers 3B Duvall LF Duran CF Verdugo RF Yoshida DH We've also seen Duvall in CF and Duran in LF. And of course we've seen Refsnyder start against lefties instead of Duran. The bottom line is, it's not a strict platoon, it's totally flexible.
  6. Per MLBTR, Kike is owed about 3.6 mill the rest of the way, the Red Sox are paying 2.5 mill of that, so they are saving 1.1 mill.
  7. As we have seen, Cora is not averse to shuffling guys around to get them in the lineup.
  8. Fairly modest? Does that mean moderately mediocre?
  9. That's a valid concern. His .910 OPS in the last 8 games is encouraging though.
  10. McGuire's .877 OPS with the Sox last year was not the real thing. This year's .665 is the real thing. And I still get the creeps from his CERA. I know it's small samples and all, but still, 6.33 and 5.42...it's like the guy has a black cloud over him when he catches for us. I wonder if he's easy to steal our signs off or something.
  11. As I keep saying to mvp, the whole season counts. He could easily get hot again.
  12. Fair enough on Vaz. Wong has been tremendous. I'm still not a McGuire fan.
  13. Some of those differences were not large.
  14. Have you ever checked Vaz's defensive numbers on FanGraphs?
  15. Duvall has an .835 OPS and is a decent fielder. Not sure why people want him gone.
  16. They're toying with us.
  17. I prefer to look at each season individually, so that's a major part of our disagreement. As for the 4 year time period, the fact that the 2021 team almost made it to the World Series seems to counter the idea that there was a steady decline. As for the general point that the farm is a big factor in success over the long haul, I certainly agree with that. I was not unhappy when they replaced DD with Bloom.
  18. Yes, that was a huge one.
  19. For 2019, I think it's on you to show how no farm help was the biggest factor.
  20. Vaz's defensive value per FanGraphs is actually oustanding, much higher than I would have guessed - 122.4 Runs Above Replacement for his career.
  21. I'm not saying it's far-fetched, but I think you're falling victim to confirmation bias in assessing all the factors that contributed.
