  1. Martin signed a 2-year contract with the Red Sox.
  2. We are pretty much Cole's daddy. I'll post some stats on that tomorrow when they're updated.
  3. Why would we include Stroman, though? Also, there's Scherzer, Montgomery, Civale...not sure if there are others.
  4. You are the money man!
  5. He's been one of the most pleasant surprises of recent seasons. Don't think any of us saw him becoming as good a starter as he has been.
  6. Quite possibly. Doesn't make it a good idea though.
  7. Not exactly a banner year for the Rivalry, but fans of both teams still want to beat the crap out of each other.
  8. I think moon was actually trying for some humor there.
  9. Zactly. Hope for lightning in a bottle of Jack Daniels.
  10. Right. Because Henry had clearly given up on keeping him.
  11. He could be traded if the Sox eat mucho of the dinero, sure. But it's almost pointless.
  12. Look at the bright side, though, man, they didn't trade Paxton!
  13. Seriously? The recent 3 game thrashing by the Jays was a tad harmful too.
  14. OTOH I don't think there was anyone here who was happy that they didn't get a starter.
  15. It's 2 separate things: -The trade was fine in terms of what Bloom got back. -The decision to give up on retaining Betts was not fine, not fine at all.
  16. Pretty hard to disagree that they should have gotten a starter. But that of course assumes they were seriously interested in trying to make the playoffs.
  17. Dark side sez they signed Raffy because: -He was the last one standing -Torches and pitchforks
  18. My evaluation leaves out the trade altogether because the trade brings in a pile of variables. To me the simplest way to look at it is that we subtracted a player who has produced 52.5 million in surplus value in the first 2.75 years of his new contract. That hurts any way you look at it.
  19. Agreed. He's a keeper. The team's erratic play is making us think crazy things.
  20. Betts AAV vs. FanGraphs Dollar Values: 2021 29 30.8 2022 29 52.3 2023 (pro-rated for 120 team games) 21.5 48.9 Totals 79.5 132 Surplus value to date 52.5
  21. But Hugh, we can also cherry-pick Sox players who have had lousy returns on the money the last few years. For example, what if we compare 2023 Betts 29 AAV to 2023 Story and Kluber 33.33 AAV?
  22. Have to give him credit for the accurate Lennon quote, though.
  23. Betts is at .295 with 31 HR.
