  1. Henry had me worried for a few years there, but he's back on his game.
  2. It's always nice to see guys like Buehler and Wong shut up the boo birds for one game at least.
  3. Sox fans used to give JDM a hard time about striking out on low and away breaking pitches too. The thing is, MLB pitchers are really good at setting the hitter up for those pitches with the previous pitches in the sequence.
  4. King is a very good pitcher, but this is his first start since May 18 so he should be on a reduced pitch count. "Drive up that count early and get into their bullpen!" - Yours, Cap'n Obvious.
  5. I always said it was a horrible signing at that price, and I haven't changed my mind. But what's done is done and with Devers gone he fits the DH role, and he can put up a 115 OPS+ or so.
  6. Pretty crazy how quickly some were to write off Yoshida. He obviously needed a bit of time to get back in the groove. He's a good hitter. Way overpaid but that's beside the point.
  7. Toto wasn't really a one-hit wonder. Hold the Line, Rosanna, Africa.
  8. Well, he came through last night in a big spot. Still keeping my fingers crossed that he's going to help us the rest of the way. He's got the pedigree and the competitive fire. His arm may not be what it used to be, but that's where you need your pitching coach to get the best out of him, and I think we have a damn good pitching coach.
  9. All I will say is this: If, after 3 starts, Mr. May has not yet produced a good one, I too will be looking upon him as the proverbial/literal redheaded stepchild.
  10. I believe that WAR for pitchers does account for high leverage vs, low leverage innings, but I'd need to refer that one to a real expert.
  11. Yes, games would be no good, especially with platoon guys. WAR per 4 PA's would simply be moon's numbers multiplied by 4, but that would be fine too. Platoon guys obviously get a boost to their numbers from not facing same-hand pitching as much.
  12. No, it's overall contribution period including defense and baserunning. Basing it on PA's makes as much sense as anything.
  13. You can explain it as well and as often as you like. Or, you can use that time to talk to a brick wall. You'll get the same results in either case.
  14. Yes, and it's something we've discussed.
  15. I had to put him on ignore simply because he's been posting so much. It's not just that he's so negative, but he's also very preachy and argumentative about it. Basically he loves to hear himself talk, and if you get into it with him, you're just giving an attention-seeker exactly what he wants.
  16. I think most of us us wanted to bring him back. We were right again.
  17. I think Wacha has surprised a lot of people with how well he's pitched the last few years.
  18. Which is exactly why I chalk up Fred's negativity as a form of neurosis. He doesn't even know what good times are.
  19. You're probably right. It was quite a mash-up.
  20. Chapman & Wilson fall in the "good deals that will be hard to replace" category, so they are more like minuses than pluses.
  21. Any time you feel like getting depressed, game threads are an excellent place to start. 😭
