  1. Here are the details of Sale's deal with the Braves: https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/atlanta-braves/chris-sale-7278/ Sale's $27 million remaining contract with the Red Sox was nullified and replaced by a new contract that guarantees him $38 million for 2024/2025. There's also an extra $1 million incentive of some sort for 2024. Atlanta also holds a club option for 2026 at $18 million.
  2. Oh I know. The ones I bought have the JSA authentication thing and seem to be legit. Hopefully anyway LOL
  3. God help me, I have developed a wee bit of an EBay addiction. It started with coins, and then moved into autographed Red Sox baseballs. In the last few days I have purchased two autographed 2018 World Series balls, Chris Sale ($41 US, marked down a bit for ink running) and Mookie ($86 US). There are some pretty good prices if you're into this stuff.
  4. This may have been something the PBT (Pitching Brain Trust) was looking at: In 2023 Anderson finished in the 92nd percentile of all pitchers in hard-hit percentage (31.7%) and the 82nd percentile in average exit velocity (87.4 mph), per Statcast.
  5. Henry has established he's not a big believer in 5 year plans for GMs.
  6. Grissom would be part of that equation.
  7. B and B must see something in him. Their judgment and methods are really gonna be put to the test over the next 6 months.
  8. Rodon, who got lit up today, is a huge factor for the Yanks, as is Nestor.
  9. Red Sox sign RHP Chase Anderson to major league deal. Cue the "We're saved!" posts.
  10. I do have some optimism that Breslow and Bailey are going to get good results out of Houck and Whitlock. Hopefully we find out once and for all what their best roles are.
  11. The jury is out on everything.
  12. That would be an awful way for a GM to think, wouldn't it?
  13. Sure, it's a no brainer once we know they're not really in on 2024. Like I say they've done a great job reducing our expectations. Now we'll be thrilled if they win 85 and finish 4th.
  14. They could have made it into a two-year deal just as the Braves did. When you have control over the player there are all kinds of things you can do besides let the contract expire...
  15. The Red Sox also had an option on Sale for 2025, so the comparison is really 2 years to 5 years.
  16. OK George Carlin.
  17. In terms of actual IQ, I'd say no. But the athletic life tends to keep a lot of them from advancing intellectually, let's say.
  18. I think if Jansen is traded it should be at the deadline. Sometimes a closer can be traded for a good haul at the deadline.
  19. English is a hilariously effed up language, it's not you.
  20. It's all our money, at source. Sam Kennedy says they're just "stewards". So it has to be true.
  21. Cooper Freakin' Criswell.
  22. "Pocketing" does have ambiguity because it refers to both putting it in and keeping it in. I'm trying for a clean semantic solution here. In vain, I realize, but such is life.
  23. Fans suck, basically, I agree. And if/when Sale gets injured, there will be plenty of knowing/gloating remarks about that too.
  24. Because of course he does.
  25. Fans sure don't have much patience for injured players.
