    I actually think the Sox are going to pay the man, though I'm not counting on it. It seems clear enough that Henry and Werner must like him to hire him back after the suspension and to keep him on after two 78-84 seasons. As much as I've been ragging on ownership they do show redeeming qualities at times.

    Yeah, if people don't think AC is a superior manager after watching him navigate the chaos he's been handed this year I don't know what to tell them.

    They wouldn't beat the Cubs' guarantee of $53 million. Very indicative of their disciplined approach the last few years.

    Yeah, you wonder if he did or didn't do something that caused him to fall out of favor. It makes the team look pretty dysfunctional when you have Pablo Reyes being treated like a key to the offense while Yoshida is the $18 million Designated Sitter. The team always looks more dysfunctional after back to back crappy losses, mind you.

    It has definitely gotten weird with Yoshida. Could make a good little subplot for the Netflix doc.

    It's actually the injury situation that's been keeping Yoshida as our $18 million Designated Sitter the last few games. There's just no place to put him if Devers is DH'ing.

    Yes, he did. But maybe JH's message to the rest of the front office or his thinking was something like this: "I'll do this, but we're still gonna keep our total payroll out of the Top 10 and under the tax threshold."

    No matter what you think about Bauer, if you think the Red Sox would even contemplate signing him, you're not really paying a lot of attention to the way stuff works in Boston. The Sox got crushed for Dermody, and he's an altar boy compared to Bauer.

    Sorry moon, that's very unsound reasoning. He can steal a base after a regular old single too. Plus he could get picked off or caught stealing. .666 just isn't a good result for those 9 PA's. It's not terrible. It's mediocre.

    3 for 9, all singles, only yields the Satanic OPS of .666. Considering how fast Duran is, this seems more like an explanation of why it's not done more. Small sample, needless to say.

    The premise that the injury epidemic started around 2014 seems to be based on TJ surgery stats. But what about all the injuries that don't lead to TJ surgery? Maybe this needs a more detailed examination.

    It can't be ruled out, but Pedro Martinez and Justin Verlander don't think it's the pitch clock that's the issue. It's that everyone is throwing with maximum velocity and spin on every pitch.

    Casas's fracture was likely a stress fracture, right? The break occurred on one swing but the bone was probably weakened from the stress his swing put on it over time.
