From what he's said, I think Casas realizes he can make himself a bunch of money by having a big season and improving his fielding, then talking extension again.

We still don't really know what they're planning on this year. One could argue that if it was a 100% punt they wouldn't even have done the Giolito deal.
As for Casas, they have the option of deferring the start of the extension until 2025, correct?
FWIW Joel Sherman is hearing that Montgomery's contract ask has gone from (rough figures) 7/175 to 5/135. Seems he has a couple of offers on table but obviously still well short of the ask.
The Braves might get 3 good years from Sale at a very reasonable price and Grissom might be a total bust.
Or Sale might pitch 10 innings for the Braves and we might get 5 good years from Grissom at a very reasonable price.
The possibilities are myriad.
