The one thing Breslow might be faulted for is not picking up another RH power bat like Teoscar. Our RH hitting is feeble, even with Wong's tremendous start. Hopefully Grissom's numbers will improve from Gruesome.

But it's your theory that Bloom bears the blame for it. I think if you put it to a poll most Sox fans would put the blame on Henry. Bloom was the hired gun. We all know how the hired gun thing works.

Any way you look at it, the Red Sox ended up paying Devers 30 mill a year long term instead of Betts. And as much as I like Devers, he's half as good as Betts, if that.

I think Betts did as much as say it was all about the money. He admitted to turning down $200 million, after all.

Maybe Betts was lying in his press conference. But nobody seemed to make the slightest effort to follow up. Just seems weird. This was the biggest loss of talent by the Red Sox since Ruth.

I've read that. What's weird is there's no direct statement by Betts of how much he turned down. Where's the rest of the conversation? The reporting of the whole thing has sucked from the beginning.

Bloom was hired October 25/19. Betts wasn't traded until Feb/20. Seems like a considerable stretch of time to me.

Lou Merloni is the guy who reported it, I believe. Betts said it was ******** and it's been crickets since.

But when you look at how late in the day they traded Betts, it makes some sense that there were final talks with him. If it had been a no-doubt move why didn't the process of trading him start a lot sooner?

Seems like everybody gets to make up their own definition of "prospect". Bernardino was 30 when he threw his first major league pitch. The Red Sox are the fourth organization he's been with. Cam Booser must be a prospect too, I guess.

I'd like to see the quote on what he actually said. He did talk about the 8 year/$200 million offer that he turned down, saying he came very close to signing it, and that it was his mother who told him to stay clear-headed and not over-react to what a big chunk of money it was and all that.

What does that have to do with the media not following up with Bloom? That's kind of their job. Maybe Bloom wouldn't respond, but that's beside the point.

The intriguing part was that Betts said "talk to Chaim about it", implying that there were some final talks before he was traded. Slack-ass Boston media failed to follow up on that.

Hard to say that when they didn't offer it to him. The highest number we've heard was 300 mill, and of course Betts said that didn't happen either. I think you were probably right when you suggested they talked about 300 mill but didn't make an official offer for that much.

If they got the extension done with Mookie, they might have done that extension with Sale anyway and not done the one with Bogaerts. They were actually pretty transparent with the fans when they had their press conference after 2018. They said they didn't think they'd be able to keep all 3.
