    Yep. Mookie's first arb pay was $10.5 million which he received after 2017. That must be among the very highest first arb pays handed out if not the highest. But they also seem to be gradually increasing the arb pays.

    I think we're making a bit too much of how cheap this rotation is. Bello got that extension, and Houck and Crawford are gonna get a lot more expensive if they keep pitching well. Good players don't stay cheap, only bad ones do.

    Monster IF here, but IF the Sox can replicate this series result against the Yanks, the selloff might be on hold.

    Right. But Pivetta will be gone next year unless they sign him to a new contract, and the price tag for Houck and Crawford will keep going up. It's a constant financial juggling act on a high wire.

    Put it this way, the only logical way the quality of baseball would be worse in 2024 than in 2023 is if a pile of stars retired after 2023.

    You're more than entitled to your opinion, and no one is going to change it. But I just can't see any logic in the idea that the quality of play has gotten worse. Some teams have improved, some have gone backward, but that's the way it's always been. And the average record is still .500.

    And his latest comments about unrealistic expectations and 1 in 30 chances were reptilian to the max.

    It would certainly help if the few relatively big moves they do make, like signing Giolito and trading Sale for Grissom, didn't blow up in their faces. But it keeps happening.

    But that doesn't matter much if the 2024 team is going nowhere. The last 2 years they could have gotten a load of stuff by selling but they passed. I don't think they want to go for a 3-peat.

    I think we do know a few things based on the last offseason. They had no intention of investing very heavily in 2024. Plus I think what I said about why Bloom was fired is a fair statement. There's no way Breslow wants to repeat the same mistake. And they have plenty of cover with all the injuries.

    This team does not want to try to make the playoffs. They want to sell off, save a few bucks and add some prospects. Bloom got fired for his deadline confusion. They don't want any of that this year.
