  1. You can say that about player attitudes toward the real games too.
  2. It's Opposite Sale Day.
  3. That's the correlation/causation thing. If the strike turned fans off, you'd think viewership in general would go down. There was also a work stoppage in 1972.
  4. You must have seen the clip of Ted Williams ecstatically rounding the bases after his game winning home run in an All Star Game. He said it was one of the biggest moments of his career. It obviously did have more meaning to players back then.
  5. I have no interest in it myself, but the Home Run Derby seems to be kind of a big deal now.
  6. That's a good point. In the old days there were stars you would never, ever get to see play in Fenway.
  7. Every day is a For Sale Day for some.
  8. Pivetta Showcase tonight.
  9. I'm sure we'll see that soon!
  10. That's a pertinent point. But let's look at Ortiz with 2 outs, bases loaded: 109 PA's 310/367/610 - 977 OPS
  11. Devers's career clutch stats are all pretty much in line, but this is the one he has failed at in recent games: 2 outs, bases loaded 45 PA's 195/267/439 - 706 OPS
  12. Speaking of Devers, he's been swinging it well since returning. Now please stay healthy.
  13. We are getting a bit sissified about all this, though. There are 3 Wild Card teams in each league now. If that ain't enough for you, maybe it's your fault. As for the AL/NL relative strength thing, this should be a random variance that evens out over time. It's not like NL teams aren't spending (Dodgers/Mets/Braves/Phillies/Padres/Giants).
  14. notin makes the funniest typos, I try to let them go but sometimes I can't help myself.
  15. Teams that are in sell mode at the deadline usually trade expiring contracts and obtain prospects, no?
  16. Might be a Captain Obvious take, but I think the Rays and Jays are the teams we have to finish ahead of this year to make the playoffs.
  17. An admirably perverse take.
  18. And winning at a decent clip in spite of the injuries. Maybe the injury luck will improve.
  19. Larry Cook's post didn't even say "if we're out of it at the deadline", it just kind of jumped to the conclusion that we will be. That's what really strikes me as strange. I think we should reserve those discussions until an appropriate time. We all know we have some some deadline-trade assets. Just my take. It ain't changing, any more than yours, or Red's, or mvp's...we're all dug in pretty deep here.
  20. That leaves a lotta room in between.
  21. It's whatever's in the mind of the poster, I guess. To me it seems weird when the team is doing so much better than expected.
