  1. MADSTORK is the board's resident troll. He's so much of a troll that he won't even disclose who his team is.
  2. How quickly the value of player assets can depreciate-or appreciate. If Montgomery returned from the IL and pitched 2 good games in a row, his value would shoot right back up.
  3. But Sale's recent history when he signed the extension after 2018 was clearly concerning. He pitched 158 innings in 2018 compared to 214 the year before and was on and off the IL, and not really himself in the 2018 postseason. I think you nailed it when you said DD likely expected Sale to only pitch 4 out of the 5 years in the extension, and this was reflected in the pricing.
  4. Some of it can be chalked up to luck. But the failure to do anything about replacing Giolito can only be chalked up to the same penny-pinching approach we've seen since Bloom was hired.
  5. Nothing that Grissom says pisses me off. What pisses me off is that we let go of a pitcher that might have helped the 2024 team, and we did very little else to upgrade the rotation, and I think all that is going to end up costing the 2024 team's chances. It's as simple as that. My issue with acquiring Grissom is that it turns out he was no more than an "OK prospect", as mvp put it. Him being only an OK prospect really makes the rationale behind this move questionable.
  6. Slaten to IL with elbow inflammation. Ugh.
  7. Triton: a Greek god of the sea, the son of Poseidon and Amphitrite. Triton lived with his parents in a golden palace on the bottom of the sea. Later he is often depicted as having a conch shell he would blow like a trumpet. (Wikipedia)
  8. We're 754 vs RHP/716 vs LHP MLB averages 705/714 So yes, it's a weakness.
  9. We shall judge him by his actions, not his jargon. And judge we shall.
  10. Personally I can't rule out the possibility that he was also getting confused messages from his bosses. We've seen they can be pretty good at those.
  11. So far he's been very adequate. Not sure they can trade for anyone guaranteed to do better. Not sure this needs to be a priority.
  12. He's gone on record in clear words about picking a lane. And he can see the flowers that were left for Bloom at the fatal third fork in the road.
  13. You could probably call him adequate at least. I can't see them giving up much to upgrade the position at the deadline. I assume if they do buy it'll be pitching.
  14. Hamilton has a bWAR of 1.6 and fWAR of 1.1 in about i/3 of a season's work, so he really hasn't been bad.
  15. Yes, they've won 4 rings with extremely productive DH's.
  16. Can't we let the guy bask in the glory of that home run against the Yanks for just a few days?
  17. He had that big year in 1980.
  18. Heck, Duran is older than Devers LOL
  19. Yeah, it's unfortunate, there's definitely some piling on going on with Grissom. It's a trifecta of bad stuff-the guy he got traded for is having a great season, he can't stay healthy and his numbers are horrific. He's so far behind the eight-ball now that you wonder if he has much future with the Sox, especially with them having multiple other 2B possibilities for 2025 and beyond.
  20. Right, he also took very few walks and had very little power. He was one bad offensive player.
  21. He's also only played 94 MLB games so I think he's still learning a lot.
  22. Seems counter-intuitive (but that's baseball) because you'd think it's the wall that produces all the extra doubles and hitters pull the ball more than they go opposite field. Any theories?
  23. Cora did the right thing under the circumstances IMO.
  24. It's oddly reminiscent of the Yoshida signing, i.e. scouts getting overexcited about certain skills and overlooking certain weaknesses...
  25. Yeah, that's a decent comp, I didn't like that trade either. And a few years prior to that they traded John Tudor for Mike Easler. Generally speaking I don't like trading starting pitchers who have any credentials or potentials whatsoever.
