If the score was 3-2 instead of 11-2 it's much more likely he would have been pulled. Just another reminder that ERA can be affected by a lot of things. -
Yes, as mvp put it, he's an OK prospect. We have a number of those for middle infield. We also have Story and Mayer.

It's irrelevant in terms of not being able to do anything about it once it's done. But you could say the same about selling Ruth, trading Bagwell, trading Betts. It's just about evaluating decisions.

It's pretty incredible how good the pitching has been considering last year's numbers and the fact the only significant addition was immediately gone for the season. Bailey is doing one hell of a job.

What could derail this season is if Houck and/or Crawford wear down. That would bring the team's reluctance to reinforce the rotation back under the microscope. But maybe Breslow will make an add before the deadline. We can hope.

I don't understand this particular argument. The Sox had a team option on Sale for 2025 for $20 million-an option that automatically vested if he reached certain targets, including not being on the IL at the end of the season. Given Sale's injury history and the risk mitigation of the option, it would be pure insanity to even think about an extension.

Yeah but what about Glasnow's injury history? I thought that was part of the equation here. The guy had reached 100 innings twice and his career high is 120. Also no idea what his salary last year has to do with it. The real point is how much money the Dodgers invested in him.

Right, and Chris Sale is just any 35 year old pitcher, just like he's showing... There's no perfect comp for Sale, but you've got Tyler Glasnow and Jacob deGrom as examples of guys coming off more than one injury-decimated season, and the going rate was pretty darn high.

Yes, that's what it looks like, he's an OK prospect. We got 10 million and an OK prospect. Some folks talked like Grissom was going to be the answer at second base for the next 6 years.

I thought we established the Braves are "babying" all their starters. If Sale pitches 3 innings tonight he'll be T1 in starts and leading in IP.

I'm not drawing conclusions, I'm just jabbering like I always do. I tend to get obsessed about some things. This year it's the Sale-Grissom trade. Some of it is pushing back against this being a slam-dunk great trade for the Sox. I've been on Sons of Sam Horn a lot lately and a lot of those folks were absolutely thrilled by it. And Grissom's limited MLB numbers were used as evidence that the guy has already proven he can rake at the MLB level. When I dug deeper into the numbers I was not so impressed.

I would counter that talking about how to make the team better is equally "what if" and equally pointless, because they're gonna do what they're gonna do, as always. Almost all of our talk here is totally pointless. Except that we seem to enjoy it for some reason.

220 consecutive MLB PA's without a home run, and only a handful of EBH's. If that doesn't raise any concerns about his power, fine. Even in 2022 his hard hit % and exit velocity were way below average.

OK, I can see the rationale for why the trade for Sale made sense for the Braves. It still doesn't convince me that the Red Sox lack of depth made it a good move to trade Sale. Their lack of depth has a lot to do with their reluctance to sign starters.

Sure, that makes sense. But notin's theory that the Braves were able to utilize Sale and allow for the possibility of him getting injured better than us does not. If Sale gets hurt it's going to be a blow to them just like it would be with us. They have Fried, Lopez and Morton. We have Houck, Crawford and Bello. Plus we obviously could have signed another starter.
