A brutal stretch for the AL wild card teams

KC does have a brutal schedule. From Aug 23 to Sept 4 they play 14 games in 13 days - 7 vs Cle, 4 vs Hou, 3 vs Phil. Their pitching is in much better shape than ours, however. -
I think we should be prepared for another winter of promises and lies on their part, disappointment and confusion on ours.

In retrospect, we had yet another incredibly useless offseason with our rotation. Some of it was bad luck, but the cold fact is that Breslow's moves only made it worse.

The Criswell as savior thing might also have to be re-thought. Rich Hill might have to be pressed into service pronto. Time for him to join the fun.

All those thoughts about Breslow and Bailey expertly rebuilding and re-calibrating our pitching just might have to be put on hold.

After the great start, we're now 5th worst in MLB in runs allowed per game! Better only than the Rockies, White Sox, Marlins and Angels. It's almost funny. Almost.

Fire Bailey? We had the best pitching in April, and we've had the worst since.

His defense has been pretty damn good when he's played, no? Plus he seemed to be going the extra mile in the offseason with his camps or whatever he was doing.

I've always been a Sale Pollyanna through all the injuries. I stayed a Pollyanna because I thought his ability was still largely intact and his attitude seemed solid. I feel the same about Story now. I don't want him traded either.

Happy, yes. Somewhat surprised at the level he's pitching at, sure. Totally surprised? Obviously not, or they wouldn't have made the deal.

Thank you Captain Obvious. Yes, I will stipulate to the plausibility of the premise that Sale was willing to accept a below-market deal because he recognized that he was an elevated injury risk.

Could be both too. Hitters having a good idea what kind of pitch is coming. Also, why are our guys so tired? -
They were still major league players. Unless we're buying into old man complaints that players just aren't as good anymore. Plus other pitchers got to face these teams too, so if we really wanted to dig we'd have to do a lot of comparisons. Edit: May 19-31, 2019 - 3 games vs. Houston and NYY - Sale struck out 25 in 17.1 IP.

First you have to explain how he could do those May and June numbers while injured.

Sale was so injured in May, 2019 that he could only strike out 66 guys in 38.1 innings!
