  1. Yes, the real criminal negligence by the Sox is not signing any of those mid-level deals the last few years.
  2. Just read through this thread for the period around the Imanaga signing. It's fair to say that most of the comments were cynical and/or despondent about the lack of action on the starting pitching front.
  3. We've had some crazy humid weather here. Can't imagine how bad it is there. But I like your description.
  4. The .760 OPS is not horrific, but it's not actually good. A team with a .760 OPS would be #6 in baseball.
  5. Such dreams we had...again.
  6. My first comment about Imanaga.
  7. Another Imanaga comment.
  8. smoke gets the award for the loudest complaint about Imanaga.
  9. notin is talking about the Sox not signing anyone after Giolito and Whitlock went down.
  10. I'm sure I expressed disappointment about not signing Imanaga. I'll have to dig up the posts about it. I'm picking on that one because we know the Sox were actually in on the bidding.
  11. Yeah, personally I think Bloom got scapegoated. He pretty much did what they hired him to do. And Breslow appears to be operating under the same tight constraints, not much has changed, especially with the damn pitching.
  12. Who were the good depth signings they missed on?
  13. Personally I don't care that much about what us posters say LOL
  14. If Eovaldi pitches 36 more innings this year his option for 2025 vests.
  15. Absolutely, he has really been good for a while now.
  16. But making the bases bigger decreased the distance between the bases.
  17. I honestly don't think Red would say something like that.
  18. Our pitchers seemed to start wearing down in May.
  19. Very much remains to be seen. There's nothing especially impressive in the numbers for either.
  20. But why not sign a pitcher that will be around for more than a year? It's not like we have a bunch of young studs waiting in the wings. Plus it kind of looks like Crawford and Bello just aren't that good.
  21. "We just want you to throw the type of pitches you throw best, son." "But coach, I have been throwing my best pitches, and they've hammering them!"
  22. So you thought it was just more kicking the can down the road stuff.
  23. IIRC the pre-season projected WARs for Sale and Giolito were just about identical. If the projections were right (which of course they never are, but at least they're objective), that means Breslow simply did nothing! The kicker is that Grissom was also projected to have a 2 WAR or so. That would have sort of made it a win, but not for the rotation. Just some really strange s*** going on with their thinking IMO.
  24. Giolito also had a 7 ERA over the last 2 months of 2023. The idea must have been that Bailey would fix him, but Bailey's fix-it powers are starting to look a bit overrated.
  25. Furthermore, even if Giolito pitched well, his contract was structured so that he would probably opt out in that case. WTF are they doing? It's anybody's guess at this point.
