  1. Bard had a 1.44 ERA with Varitek last year and a 4.54 ERA with Salty, so if we get rid of Varitek things will be even more exciting for Bard.
  2. I think it goes like this: Q) Does Drew play enough games? A) Nope. Move on. Q) When he plays, is he productive?
  3. I've participated in quite a few of these arguments about Drew the last few years. They're actually kind of fun. Not quite as much fun since his averages with the Sox have gotten dragged down the last two years. The knock on him about his fragility and his attitude is tough to dismiss. Wouldn't even attempt it. The knock on his offensive productivity is much more addressable. The primary criticisms always revolve around his low RBI's. What seems to get overlooked is how his high OBP translates into high runs scored totals. The players I think Drew should be compared are guys like Pedroia and Damon. Over his career Drew averages 82 RBI and 98 runs per 162. Pedroia = 78 and 109 Damon = 75 and 110 Also you could bring in someone like Victor Martinez who drives in considerably more but scores considerably less. 104 and 82 If you use the simple metric of Runs Created - Runs + RBI - HR, Drew falls just a little below these other 3, who are considered to be good solid offensive producers.
  4. Which specific data are you you referring to as the ones you consider important?
  5. One thing nobody's mentioned is Drew's postseason numbers for us. Everybody knows the Slam, but here are his career postseason numbers for Boston: 28 games 107 PA's 286/346/459 805 OPS 4 HR 19 RBI Interestingly enough Swisher has the identical number of postseason games for the Yankees: 28 games 114 PA's 160/257/330 587 OPS 4 HR 5 RBI
  6. That's a fair methodology and I would agree with the 2003-2008 grade. I think the 2009-2011 is too low, but I can see a D grade. Overall I think a B- grade is reasonable.
