  1. Some people see the glass as half-full. Some people see it as half-empty. Accountants see the glass as too damn big, and recommend a sizing adjustment on future orders.
  2. Jeff Passan had a story about Oswalt that seemed plausible. The gist of it was that Oswalt is only interested in playing for the Rangers or the Cards. Neither team has a rotation opening, but Oswalt may be prepared to wait until there's opening through injury or ineffectiveness.
  3. Wouldn't following through on that that mean paying Epstein for a year to do nothing? And not getting any compensation whatsoever? Hard to see how that would be a beneficial move.
  4. We're getting Carpenter and a PTBNL.
  5. They should have done it like a salary arbitration, where Selig could only pick one. That would have forced them to come up with reasonable offers.
  6. Epstein put a very strong team on the field at the start of 2011. A lot of weird s*** happened, from injuries to the pitching collapse. You could blame some of that stuff on him, but some of it was just s***** luck as far as the GM's involvement in it.
  7. I'm glad Mark Belanger's name came up. I'll be happy if that's the guy Iglesias is ultimately compared to.
  8. All he said were facts, Muggah.
  9. And the guys who call him Blunder and Inepstein are also the guys who say Francona was a lousy manager who cost 5-10 games a year. Which would put us at 95-100 wins every year of Epstein's tenure. I love that part.
  10. Our offense won't be a problem, you said so yourself. We'll score enough runs with or without Iglesias. If he can play a good shortstop that'll be enough.
  11. You didn't like Trot either?
  12. We don't trade with NY. :thumbdown They got two picks for Damon. Used to take Daniel Bard and Kris Johnson.
  13. I really don't think so. The Red Sox were 3rd in the league in SB in 2008 and 5th in 2009. I think the 2008 team was the first Red Sox team to have 3 players with 20 SB. Plus I'm sure they expected Crawford to steal a lot of bases. Why he didn't remains somewhat of a mystery.
  14. Excellent point.
  15. Agreed. Every year is a tough year for the manager of the Red Sox-Grady Little nailed it when he said 'in Boston they don't play 162 games, they play 162 seasons'. But this year promises to be especially tough, and as you say if Valentine gets them to the postseason he will have done very well indeed.
  16. I think one of the best comparisons for Drew's contract is Damon's contract with the Yankees. Damon got one year less and $1 million less. If you compare the first four years of Drew's deal with Damon's four years in NY, value-wise they come out pretty close. Damon was more durable and stole more bases. Drew had a higher OPS and was a better fielder. If Drew had gotten 4 years $52 million that would have been about right. The fifth year was a killer.
  17. Yeah, personally I can't wait to see how the genius Valentine handles some of the issues he'll be facing with this pitching staff this year.
  18. Youk got 2 AB's in the ALDS, that was it. As I recall he was a great cheerleader though. Youk and I think it was Cesar Crespo, you can see them with their jackets on being very vocal supporters in the ALCS.
  19. I don't understand. You're criticizing Francona for not leaving starters in past 100-110 pitches, then giving a perfect example of what happens to most starters at 100-110 pitches.
  20. I liked Trot and Drew both, when they were on the field.
