  1. "We just want you to throw the type of pitches you throw best, son." "But coach, I have been throwing my best pitches, and they've hammering them!"
  2. So you thought it was just more kicking the can down the road stuff.
  3. IIRC the pre-season projected WARs for Sale and Giolito were just about identical. If the projections were right (which of course they never are, but at least they're objective), that means Breslow simply did nothing! The kicker is that Grissom was also projected to have a 2 WAR or so. That would have sort of made it a win, but not for the rotation. Just some really strange s*** going on with their thinking IMO.
  4. Giolito also had a 7 ERA over the last 2 months of 2023. The idea must have been that Bailey would fix him, but Bailey's fix-it powers are starting to look a bit overrated.
  5. Furthermore, even if Giolito pitched well, his contract was structured so that he would probably opt out in that case. WTF are they doing? It's anybody's guess at this point.
  6. The only real point is, even a diminished and half-healthy Sale was better than the other crap we have! I hated the Giolito signing too, as you know. I said I'd puke if they did it.
  7. Craig will get his 4 years like all the others. Henry is a fair man.
  8. They're damned if they do nothing about the rotation, and damned if they don't do anything!
  9. Sale had a 2.1 fWAR last year BTW. The second highest fWAR in the Sox 2024 rotation is Crawford at 1.5.
  10. If it was only about Sale your post might have a point.
  11. But at what point do the folks complaining about the new rules become the whiny bitches?
  12. Bailey: "Yeah, but at least they're not off s***** four-seam fastballs!"
  13. Hard to say. Also hard to say whether Henry even cares what the fans think any more. He told us we all suffer from unrealistic expectations. At this point it sure looks like the only things that matter to Henry are the operating profit and the franchise value.
  14. We may get the answer to that over the next 2 games, Vegas.
  15. Imanaga is a clear-cut case of how stupid the Sox have become about signing pitchers. The Cubs got him for an EXTREMELY reasonable 4/53 guarantee. The Sox were reportedly very interested but would not go past 2 guaranteed years. It's kind of mind-boggling at this point.
  16. I think JH now has a sign in his office that says "Yes, I will consider your big contract proposal. Just make sure it's not a f***ing pitcher!"
  17. KC does have a brutal schedule. From Aug 23 to Sept 4 they play 14 games in 13 days - 7 vs Cle, 4 vs Hou, 3 vs Phil. Their pitching is in much better shape than ours, however.
  18. I think we should be prepared for another winter of promises and lies on their part, disappointment and confusion on ours.
  19. In retrospect, we had yet another incredibly useless offseason with our rotation. Some of it was bad luck, but the cold fact is that Breslow's moves only made it worse.
  20. The Criswell as savior thing might also have to be re-thought. Rich Hill might have to be pressed into service pronto. Time for him to join the fun.
  21. All those thoughts about Breslow and Bailey expertly rebuilding and re-calibrating our pitching just might have to be put on hold.
  22. After the great start, we're now 5th worst in MLB in runs allowed per game! Better only than the Rockies, White Sox, Marlins and Angels. It's almost funny. Almost.
  23. Fire Bailey? We had the best pitching in April, and we've had the worst since.
  24. Played vastly better D than any of our other infielders.
