  1. I can't remember too many similar cases to what Bard is going through. It appears very serious to me. He seems to have totally lost the plate. The only other examples I can think of are Steve Blass and Rick Ankiel. For both of them it was the end of their pitching careers. Can you think of anybody who went through this and came back successfully?
  2. Bard had another disaster outing tonight. A couple of hits, a couple of HBP, a couple of wild pitches. You couldn't make this s*** up.
  3. No Pedroia this weekend apparently.
  4. We could put together a team of traded/released Red Sox. 1B Rizzo 2B Scutaro SS Lowrie 3B Youkilis C Kottaras LF Murphy CF Crisp RF Reddick DH Moss P Masterson
  5. Really...they are pissing themselves at us the last week or so. Reddick, Crisp and Moss all homering against us, while Bailey and Sweeney aren't even playing. Youkilis turning right back into 2007 Youkilis as soon as we move him. Rizzo hitting bombs while Gonzo hits singles. Oh well...maybe Lillibridge will heat up.
  6. Yes, this nails what I've been trying to say.
  7. I would go with the Italian sausages they sell outside the park. Those things are legendary and very much a part of the Fenway atmosphere.
  8. Just joking...if our final record this year really really sucks it increases the chances we'll improve on it next year.
  9. I would not be in any great hurry to unload Cody Ross. He's not a good fielder but he's a very solid RH bat who crushes lefties and has a swing made for Fenway. Seems like a good guy as well. And he's cheap. Keep the man, I say.
  10. Youk was taking up a spot on the 25 man roster. The only way to play him was to sit WMB or Gonzo or stick Gonzo in RF. When he did play he wasn't doing much. It was just a bad situation. They did do him a favor trading him to the White Sox. Let's hope Stewart can pitch, because Lillibridge is kind of a bad joke on fans who are already getting sick watching Punto.
  11. Agon's pop is diminished, that's for sure. We can only hope that he's had some weakness or something in his shoulder that will heal. At least he's getting some hits.
  12. Yeah, it looks ominous at the moment. I don't think Epstein can be faulted for the Gonzo deal though. I'd say about 90% of Sox fans wanted Gonzo, and when it looked like the deal might fall through people were livid. It's all part of the perils of being a rich team and signing $150 million contracts. Maybe we should cease and desist with these types of contracts forever. There are very few sure things.
  13. Youk with the walk-off single tonight. It seems like the baseball gods are having a yuk on us these days. I won't be surprised if D-Mac goes on a tear against us this weekend.
  14. jung, I think your point about the poor execution in areas of defence and fundamentals is a solid one. Those are things that can turn the outcome in these tight games.
  15. I'd have to see some numbers that support the idea that pitching generally improves as the season goes on. The league average team ERA by month so far in 2012: April 4.06 May 4.06 June 3.99 July 4.41 Also I meant that the 30-26 record was not good considering the good pitching numbers.
  16. Just read a somewhat amusing footnote on this...McDonald's older brother, Donzell (!) played 5 games for the Yanks in 2001.
  17. Hey look, it'd be huge to have a stud horse pitcher like a Pedro or a Schilling or a 2007 Beckett. I don't disagree that our starting pitching still doesn't inspire a lot of confidence. I'm just trying to point out that overall, our pitching has been reasonably solid for a while now, and it isn't what's been costing us most of these losses. At the end of the day, we just may have too many flaws in all facets of the game to fix this year.
  18. 5 losses on this road trip and only one resulted from a bad performance by the starting pitcher.
  19. We've lost 15 games since June 1. In 10 of those losses we gave up 4 runs or less and still came out on the short end. In 31 games since June 1 we've only given up more than 5 runs in a game 4 times. That's pretty damn good for a supposedly strong offensive team.
  20. Right. And doesn't that seem to be because our offence can't come up with any big hits in those games, to turn 3-2 losses into 4-3 wins?
