  1. They might not be able to afford him, but they absolutely do not have an adequate replacement, not even close. Ortiz is having a Hall of Fame level season. He's slugging .609. Who replaces that? Lavarnway? He's got 7 homers and is slugging .463 in Triple A.
  2. And if we do trade Ortiz, you can be sure we'll get f***ed on the deal. I actually think that instead of that, they might sign him to an extension. They know the fans need something to get them through the rest of this season.
  3. It's been a long long time since this team packed it in in July. I'm not sure the fans would accept it, especially the ones paying for the expensive tickets. Tough sell for this PR-conscious ownership. Lucchino, the front man, better get ready writing his talking points on that one.
  4. Yeah, it makes you wonder if Valentine's mind has snapped.
  5. Could we at least try to not be behind 4-0 or 5-0 before we come to bat...
  6. The downward spiral for this team started the day they signed Lackey. That was Step 1. Step 2 was the AGon trade and Step 3 was the Crawford signing.
  7. Pretty goddam desperate when Kalish is hitting in the 6 spot isn't it.
  8. That has to be one of the worst lineups we've had in a long time.
  9. Reddick had 2 hits and a walk last night. I think SCM is trying to will him to suck. I've been trying that too but so far it isn't really working.
  10. What else is new - things are always worse than anticipated with this team. Seems like the most sensible policy is to just expect it to keep raining s***.
  11. Lester now assumes the ERA lead among the 5 pitchers with the most starts, at a sparkling 4.33. So yeah, it's hard to argue the starting pitching hasn't stunk overall.
  12. Youk hit 199/314/346 after the break in 2011 and 233/315/377 for us this year. 324 PA's or about half a season of abject sucking. How are you supposed to expect him to suddenly catch fire by keeping him around one more month.
  13. That leads into a thought I have about effecting a change in Sox ownership without Henry even having to sell. Simple plan...Henry's wife Linda kills him. Nothing spectacular, just slow acting poison. The best part is, nobody would even notice Henry was dead for several weeks, even if he was out in public. It'd be Weekend at Bernie's 3.
  14. Pumpsie, they're saying this injury happened on a diving catch attempt in Wednesday's game. I didn't see the play but I assume a lot of people did.
  15. You're right...I didn't put much work into that...I figured somebody would come up with some better picks.
  16. I've been giving Papi a pass on this stuff up till now, but enough is enough. This is incredibly selfish stuff. The team is struggling and the last thing they need is this kind of press. Save it till after the season. An apology would be a good idea.
  17. Well at least Papelbon is trying to make us feel a little better. Last 5 appearances have been nasty. IP 4.2 H 9 BB 3 HBP 1 ER 6 2 blown saves. ERA has gone from 2.02 to 3.45.
  18. This complete loss of control is actually referred to now by some as 'Steve Blass Disease'. In golf its called 'the yips'.
