    John 'One Bad Inning' Lackey strikes again. Does anybody know why Farrell didn't pitch hit for Gomes in the 9th? He has Nava and Carp on the bench while Gomes collects his 3rd K of the night?

    Props to the Bruins. I do feel sorry for Leafs fans, because as a longtime Sox fan I know all too well what it feels like to be that close and have it snatched away. I used to be a Black Hawks fan, way way back. Now I'm sort of a Penguins fan because of Crosby, who grew up pretty close to me and who knows some members of my extended family.

    It's unreal the way women go for baseball pitchers, and looks don't seem to matter. I saw pictures of Brad Penny with Alyssa Milano and Eliza Dushku.

    Yeah, absolutely, the height of that wall is a big part of the problem. It's the perfect height for inflicting damage on the body.

    The Fenway right field wall is somewhat of a menace. I remember in 2007 JD Drew and the immortal Bobby Kielty both got hurt slamming into it. You'd think they'd be able to make some of these walls with a little better padding.

    This has been an incredibly brutal stretch of games. The kind that makes you think maybe the rest of the season might suck. I don't get as emotional about it anymore. Though I'm still totally addicted to the experience of following the team and jibber-jabbering about them.

    Farrell's reasoning for letting Drew swing away was that Drew could advance the runner either by getting a hit or by hitting it on the ground to the right side.

    At the moment it's no contest. Overbay looks like one of the best bargains in baseball. His main competition right now is probably Hafner.

    23-1 Red Sox. Sox pummel Buehrle senseless, and John Gibbons is exceptionally slow removing him, due to a combination of being short-staffed in the bullpen and his difficulty staying awake with all the booze in his system from last night.

    I don't even know what to say about this anymore. It's like the Yankees could pull guys out of a bowling alley and they'd produce for them.

    The offense has been in a rut, no doubt. They're pressing in the RISP spots. But it's part of the ups and downs of the season. I think it'll get better again.
