    No...Schilling was the poster boy for giving up those one-run dingers jung was talking about.

    In 2001 the aforementioned Schilling gave up 37 dingers and had an 8.8 WAR.

    Runs have been scarce in this series though. Sometimes managers will play smallball earlier if they expect a low-scoring game.

    a) Agree 100% with the first statement. If Salty has improved and is working hard with the pitchers on their game plans etc., I have no idea why he couldn't be part of the pitching improvement too. Intangibles are intangibles. The only thing we know is the numbers. The rest is speculation.

    Then these numbers may surprise you: Lester with Salty (19 starts) ERA 3.68 OPS .679 K/BB 3.5 Lester with Ross (8 starts) ERA 4.68 OPS .815 K/BB 1.48 Salty will never be the greatest defensive catcher but I think he has improved to the point where he's at least average. He has to be given some of the credit for the starting rotation's major improvement this year.

    According to Gameday, Lester's fastball was hitting 95 yesterday. Is it possible his fastball has returned to where it was?

    He's rested too. He had probably gotten a bit arm-weary from all those mighty swishes.

    AL pitchers should be instructed to bunt or just stand there. It's a ridiculous situation - they only come to bat two games a year on average.

    Some of it's regular Yankee hate/paranoia. I think it would be good to knock the Yankees back some and reduce the number of teams we're battling with in the standings.

    Melky Cabrera could be the new 'Before and After PED's' poster boy. At the time he was suspended last year he was hitting 346/390/516. This year he's hitting 279/322/360. How 'bout that 156 point drop in his SLG? Plus he's only played 88 games this year and now is probably gone for the season. Getting a cool 16 million from the Jays though. Serves them right.

    Your opinion of MVP Ryan Braun as a player hasn't been affected at all? How about batting champ Melky Cabrera?

    Well then, you would be very much bothered by it, because they'd be suspended and they'd be mortified in the media like Ryan Braun. If you like the idea of Dustin Braun, I guess it wouldn't be an issue for you.

    Totally understand. As far as the game threads go, sometimes when a frustrated optimist gets in a rage it's pretty hilarious.

    Well, it's pretty hard to calculate 'PED adjustments'.

    But you can't just say 'PEDs or no PEDs'. Look at McGwire before and after PEDs. He might have had trouble hitting 15 HRs in 1998 without the PEDs.
