    Yeah, absolutely. I'm relieved to hear it. You don't ever want to see a young player like that seriously injured.

    I guess I was lucky that way. I was born in 1956 and the Sox absolutely SUCKED until 1967 when I was 11 and just really getting into baseball.

    Certainly what Braun did, smearing an innocent individual to save his own ass, was pretty heinous.

    I'm hoping to see the full litany of A-Rod's transgressions before I decide whose sins were greater. MLB, the people with the evidence, obviously feel that A-Rod's were.

    It'll be interesting to see if MLB pushes to keep the suspension at 211 games or if they agree to settle for just the 2014 season or even 150 games of it.

    The addition of the second wild card was strictly for entertainment and profit purposes. On that level it has succeeded. It was never about enhancing competitive fairness. That was just the smokescreen Selig tried to use.

    More dopey nonsense. Cherington wanted Farrell as manager going back to last year. Cherington is responsible for the coaching changes. And opening the wallet for FA's doesn't always work. Just ask the Angels.

    The same, of course, can be said about Fingers, Sutter and Gossage. Rivera has had tons of outings longer than an inning, especially in the postseason.

    I was wondering that too. My guess was that Palodios was only counting free agents. Carp was a trade, though not for much.

    There may have been a letdown, but the Orioles are about as good as the Rays and the Yankees.

    'Tend to even out' is not exactly a strong statement. How about a blown call in Game 162 with a playoff spot on the line.

    The challenge system in the NFL does provide some entertainment. I mean it's a classic moment when Bill Belichick tosses one of those red beanbags in disgust. They should also use the red beanbags in baseball. The manager will throw it out of the dugout toward the ump. Tell me that won't provide some humorous moments.

    The NFL has already paved the way for this. Their challenge system works pretty well and certainly hasn't affected popularity.

    Us older fans seem to place a lot more importance on a Sox player's performance against the Yanks. Over the years that has often been used by old-school type Sox fans as a measure of a Red Sox player's ability to perform under pressure or 'under the bright lights'. Younger fans don't buy into that stuff as much.

    Yanks aren't totally dead yet. Next 3 games Rays play Rangers, Guardians play Royals and Yanks play Jays. Yanks have 3 left with Rays. Other 6 games are SF and Houston.

    If the Sox don't re-sign Nap it's not inconceivable that the Yankees could be interested in him as DH/backup 1B. Nap's career line vs. NYY 342/457/651 Nap's career line vs. Bos 288/379/696 Signing Nap away from from Sox would be an excellent, spiteful PR move, pissing off their hated rivals, getting a player who murders them and also has great numbers vs. us. As for his cost, well, they did pay Youkilis $12 million to be a stopgap for A-Rod.
