  1. Alternating lefty & righty hitters is a logical strategy considering how teams use their bullpens now. In particular, most managers try to have their lefty relievers face lefty hitters as much as possible. If you string together a bunch of lefty hitters it means the other team can bring in a lefty to face a series of hitters. But if you alternate it makes it a lot harder for the other team to match up exactly how they want. So you either get a shot with a RH hitter against a lefty pitcher, or you force the other team to go through their bullpen faster.
  2. Not exactly. The Giants had a 65% win probability in that game even without Villareal entering the game. (Just yankin' your chain there, man...)
  3. Starts 5 IP 32.2 W-L 2-1 ERA 3.31 WHIP 0.98 K 20 BB 5
  4. Napoli's home run last night was 437 feet per ESPN Home Run Tracker.
  5. Great game, great job winning the last 2 games of this series. Only allowed 5 runs in 3 games. Take that Dodgers.
  6. Same here, pretty much. I like Dwight Yoakam, Steve Earle, and Joe Ely...not too many overall. Martina McBride is a pretty awesome female country singer.
  7. Peavy is a better than average hitter for a pitcher.
  8. Nice swing Bogey. Looking good at the dish tonight.
  9. f***ing right Peavy. He is showing up big tonight.
  10. There can't be many right-handed hitters in history who have been better than Pedroia at roping singles to right field.
  11. Yeah, I also thought that was the downside of him living to 119.
  12. Nice piece of hitting by Bogaerts too.
  13. I just read about a South American goatherder who's 119. So he really was middle-aged when he was our age.
  14. Agree, and I think the whole 'more strategy in the NL' thing is way overplayed.
  15. And there it is, folks: the Big Dilemma, the Big Decision that makes National League baseball a veritable chessgame: do I pinch-hit for the pitcher now, or do I not do that?
  16. No...Schilling was the poster boy for giving up those one-run dingers jung was talking about.
  17. In 2001 the aforementioned Schilling gave up 37 dingers and had an 8.8 WAR.
  18. Runs have been scarce in this series though. Sometimes managers will play smallball earlier if they expect a low-scoring game.
  19. As it turned out it didn't affect the scoring in the inning.
