  1. They aren't going to blow up the team. I think they'll just unload guys who aren't here next year - Peavy, AJP, Gomes - for whatever they can get. Maybe even Koji, which will be a drag.
  2. The continued failure of the offense is in the area of the incomprehensible. Playing in Fenway, the Red Sox give up 2 runs to the Cubs in consecutive games and can't win either game. Mind-boggling. The only good thing is that the pitching continues to be very good.
  3. For starters, why the hell would you blame Farrell when the Red Sox FO signed Drew to play shortstop?
  4. Yes, I'll believe multiple legitimate reports that Jon Lester has agreed to sign with the Boston Red Sox. Until then nothing means anything.
  5. Still, at age 38 Ortiz's numbers are quite respectable - .834 OPS, 18 HR 49 RBI. Regression is normal for someone his age. We have a team OPS of .686. Horrific.
  6. The only Red Sox offence in the last 70 years that's worse than the 2014 team was the 1992 team. And the gap is getting very narrow. The 2014 team is averaging 3.76 runs. The 1992 team averaged 3.70 runs.
  7. Buchholz is an expensive asset so I think they have to get him back out there and see what the hell is going on with him.
  8. The Rays are expected to trade Price for young talent.
  9. No, Fred, if you check the game logs, most of Bogaerts' hot streak happened after Drew's signing was announced on May 21. Can't blame Drew for everything.
  10. No chance. What's his WAA? And where are the wins gained by the Yankees?
  11. Fred, Drew was in the lineup for the 3 Minnesota games that you started the thread for and we won. They have certain rules in this forum. One is that when you start a thread and the time wins you keep doing it until they lose.
  12. C'mon Spud. Anybody But the Yankees.
  13. My guess is it was a combo: a) They were planning a day off for him sometime around now. Cross-country flight. c) 10 for 55 career vs. Kazmir.
  14. 6 games in a row the Sox have scored 2 runs or less.
  15. Cherington is saying he expects Lackey to honor the existing contract.
  16. So how would you set about trying to identify who the clutch hitters are, supported by stats?
  17. Koji has pitched 3 days in a row. I'd say he's unavailable tonight.
  18. The Red Sox biggest problem is becoming more and more obvious: it's the offence, plain and simple. At 3.91 runs scored per game, the 2014 Red Sox are on pace to being the second lowest-scoring Red Sox team since 1968, the Year of the Pitcher. The only other team that was worse was the 1992 team. Since May 15, the Red Sox have had 3 separate 3-game stretches where they've scored 5 runs total, or less.
  19. So does the 2/25 option in the poll means adding 2 years and 50 million to his one year for 500K?
  20. Just to be clear, when I say a one year extension at 17 million, that would mean we have him for 2 years for 17.5 million, an AAV of 8.75 million.
  21. It's my understanding that there are no direct quotes from Lackey about considering retiring. This all comes from media speculation. I voted one year extension at 15 million, but I think it might take something more like 17 million.
  22. Scoring 1 run in 3 games is though. Epic futility.
