  1. When you see so many kids blowing out their arms, though, it lends credibility to what Doc Andrews is saying.
  2. 4-3 after 1. Perfect. This game may make last night's look like a pitcher's duel. Look out bullpens!
  3. I really have to wrap it up with my yammering about Thornton, I know. But I remember watching him for us last year and thinking he was throwing the ball just fine. But guys just kept getting on base against him.
  4. Granderson seems inspired.
  5. I was overplaying it a bit no doubt. But are you satisfied with Thornton being the primary lefty in your pen?
  6. Thornton is washed up. He showed it with us last year, he's confirming it now. I don't see how anyone can make a case that letting Logan go in favor of this guy was a sound move.
  7. Your point about the numbers certainly has merit. Thornton's ERA is 5.40 and his WHIP is 1.8 after last night, and he's their lefty. That's where I find plenty of fault. Especially for a team with a right field short porch, having a good lefty or two would be useful.
  8. Signing a couple of good relievers would have been a worthwhile idea. The Yankee FO screwed the pooch there IMO.
  9. In fairness to Girardi I think the way he used Thornton last night was pretty standard when the 3 hitters due up are L-R-L. You will often see managers leave the lefty in to face all 3, hoping the RH hitter doesn't hurt them too much. This is also a classic example of why managers like to have LH and RH hitters alternating as much as possible. I would put the blame squarely on the Yankee FO for the bullpen issues. Letting Logan go was another example of their odd penny-pinching in the midst of their megadeals. This is one reason I think they were making it up as they went along this offseason.
  10. I thought the Yankees did a terrible job with their bullpen in the offseason and it's starting to show. The only defence for replacing Logan with the washed-up Thornton is that they saved a few bucks. And for the Yankees that's no defence at all. Thornton throws 94-96 but his command is awful.
  11. First game of the Subway Series was a doozy indeed.
  12. Matt Thornton is looking more and more like the curious signing I thought he was. His WHIP is 1.67 now. It was 1.76 with the Sox last year.
  13. Horse Face Lackey backs up Filthy Rich Horse Lester. Great job by both.
  14. John Lackey = Horse Face Jon Lester = Horse Getting Richer Sewer Horse = M.I.A.
  15. Hopefully he didn't mean Nava playing centre.
  16. Buchholz is one of the big differences from 2013, no question. But how about this: we're averaging 4.03 runs per game, compared to 5.27 last year. 1.24 runs a game less. 4.03 runs a game! That's third worst in the league. We're being outscored by Seattle so far.
  17. I liked the thought. But this game will really f*** you up LOL
  18. If you evaluate him as a cheap, serviceable back-end pitcher though, he's not that bad.
  19. I don't know if the 'catalyst' idea about Ellsbury really holds up. If you look at the Yankees offence this year, it has only had a tiny improvement over last year's slapdash squad. Obviously this isn't Ellsbury's fault, since his numbers are pretty good. But I think the 'catalyst' idea might be just that, an idea.
  20. I like your thinking as usual. Bogaerts has been a nightmare with men on base so far, but I think the turnaround will come soon. He needs that one big hit to get some confidence.
  21. Bradley and Bogaerts are getting their on-the-job training, one on offence and one on defence.
  22. Don't be so sure about that LOL
  23. AL East Pigpile Update: "The Blue Jays, while falling to last place in the division, now have the best run differential at nil." "The first-place Yankees, meanwhile, have the worst differential at a putrid -16. However, our friend Jacksonianmarch has pointed out that Joe Girardi manages to 'outperform the Pythag' by doing such things as allowing blowout losses to get even worse with his bullpen moves."
  24. It happens to all teams though. Pretty sure it happened to us a few times last year.
