  1. Look at the grades - they're all over the place. Too funny. Nobody has a clue, like I said.
  2. Seriously? Our starting rotation is slightly diminished from a day ago.
  3. I have no f***ing idea. And I can tell nobody else does either because of the massive disparities of opinions I've read. There is no consensus among the fans, that's for sure. But the scribes seem to think the Red Sox did well.
  4. But how do they replace a guy like Lester on the cheap? Can't be done. I don't doubt that a lot of moves are coming. But they are taking a pretty big risk letting Lester go. Could haunt them for the next 3-4 years.
  5. He killed his value this year - horrible numbers, and seemingly confirmation of a lousy work ethic and attitude.
  6. There's also talk that Lackey could be dealt, of course.
  7. There's also a vesting option for 2017 which kicks in at $25 million unless he has a left shoulder injury in 2016. That would make it a 9 year deal.
  8. Lester has been scratched from tomorrow's start. We may have seen him pitch for the last time as a member of the Red Sox.
  9. Ahh, fiddlesticks! I knew you were going to crush us with the Edgar numbers. The more I look at it, the more of an injustice it seems that Edgar isn't in the HOF. Are there PED suspicions with Edgar?
  10. Ortiz and Martinez have similar averages, but Ortiz's counting numbers are vastly better. And I have to disagree that Martinez was a 'much better player'.
  11. This is great stuff.
  12. It's the same one you've posted on before, Fred. I don't think it's actually called Dirt Dogs though. There is a page called Dirt Dogs in the Globe Sports Section, but what's on that page is headlines and pictures and cartoons and links to other Sox coverage.
  13. Joyce gets green lighted on a 3-0 pitch, against a guy with 5 walks in the 4th inning, and DP's.
  14. Good one, I like it. The Boston Globe Sox forum is quite entertaining these days, I have to say.
  15. If the Sox can't get Stanton maybe they should go after Tulo.
  16. Nice work, Fred. Peavy is a career 14-2 vs. the Dodgers with a 2.21 ERA.
  17. Pretty much. The laws of business are on our side.
  18. None that I've heard. I'm just saying, IMO, Henry and Lucchino, as good businessmen, know that in this market you can't keep putting s*** on the field and making money at it. So they will be looking to improve the team. Unless/until they get tired of it, and if that happens, I think they'd be ready to sell.
  19. Yes, I think they are good businessmen, and I think they know they have to upgrade the team. Or sell it.
  20. I'm only an outside observer, but Girardi seems like he must be doing a pretty good job to me.
  21. Peavy will be traded. Gomes must be traded too, even if it's for balls, bats etc.
  22. I have a feeling the Sox are serious about Hamels. I'm not saying I like it, but I can see the logic there.
  23. If Gammons's report is accurate that the Sox had a chance to ink Lester for $105 million, then I'd say they definitely f***ed up royally.
  24. As far as spending is concerned, the 2014 payroll is just as high as the 2013 payroll, and it's still one of the top 3 or 4 in baseball, lagging behind only the Yanks and Dodgers, really. The spending was there for 2014...the return on spending was not.
