  1. To me there's a point that's hard to dispute. If we had one TOTR starter replacing one of our batting practice starters, we'd be at least 3 games better in the standings. 3 games would put us 4.5 games out of the Wild Card with 90 games left, and with our offense starting to produce. It would be a significant swing in our position.
  2. Hamels has been pretty good. 14 starts, 94.1 IP, 2.96 ERA, 10 Quality Starts. Joe Kelly: 14 starts, 74.2.1 IP, 5.67 ERA, 4 Quality Starts.
  3. Sure, but that's one month. We're not completely dead as it is. If we had Hamels or Shields or whoever, from Day One, we'd be a few games better right now, with better odds of making the playoffs.
  4. Ah yes, the 'we would have sucked anyway' defense.
  5. Time to take Jelly out of the rotation.
  6. Man did we get f***ed over on the Lackey trade. Kelly and Craig have been a disaster.
  7. That's actually an understatement. 10-21 vs. AL East before tonight.
  8. Based on this story, Porcello started throwing the four-seamer more on his own and Farrell and Willis want him to throw it less. http://t.co/qX2uxthwBk
  9. Off topic here, but for you Papelbon fans, I just read a rumor that the Cubs are interested in him.
  10. I think you're right, they're not going to make any moves - unless the team plays much better over the next month. That's what they're praying for. And if the team continues to suck as a unit, making a big move or two would probably be useless.
  11. Playing .615 ball would give them 87 wins. That might be enough this year.
  12. His 30's are around the corner? C'mon. He's 26. The average MLB player breaks in at about 24 or so, I would guess.
  13. A career ERA of 3.31 (ERA+ of 118) in 4,970 innings isn't so bad.
  14. I just became aware of these nuggets and I had to put them up for fun.
  15. Porcello is just the 3rd pitcher since 1900 to have 10 wins in each of his first 6 seasons, and the fastest to 80 career wins since Bert Blyleven.
  16. Our next 10 games are against the Birds, Rays and Jays, 3 teams that have been beating us up. If we can win 6 or 7 of these games there will be some hope. If we lose 6 or more we will look like toast.
  17. I think he has it in him to be one of the best pitchers in baseball for the next 5 years. I'd really hate to see him do it for another team after all they've invested in him.
  18. 700, I think you need to give some consideration to how many of those innings were accumulated at an age when most pitchers are in the minors.
  19. I am not in the camp that wants to trade Buchholz.
  20. And right on cue, Ranaudo pitches 6.1 scoreless on Friday night.
  21. There's always an explanation - we just don't know what it is. In Porcello's case, he's had a lot of change. New team, 2 new pitching coaches, 3 new catchers, and undoubtedly a lot more pressure than he's ever felt, especially with the $83.5 million extension. What I'm really worried about is what UserName has mentioned about them tinkering with his approach to make him more of a strikeout pitcher.
  22. That'd be Judge Reinhold, who was Billy in Beverly Hills Cop. Not to be confused with Judd Nelson, who was part of the Brat Pack in movies like St. Elmo's Fire and The Breakfast Club.
  23. Nick Green is the man then. Anybody that can call something like that has a bright future in sports media.
