  1. Not yet. I have no interest in it, and it baffles me how people get so invested in fantasy leagues without even having any money involved in it. Just another time-wasting phenomenon of the internet age. But to each their own, obviously. I burn tons of time on baseball forums so I'm in no position to criticize.
  2. No fantasy talk please.
  3. The fact that the people we're talking about don't know we exist isn't relevant. You can say that about almost all the people who get discussed in the 'court of public opinion.' If you feel someone is being unfairly maligned you have every right to defend them in a forum. Going after another poster personally is a whole other matter.
  4. To me major league baseball gets more befuddling all the time. We were all laughing our asses off at how bad the Yankees offense would be, and here they are second in the league in scoring.
  5. Including yourself, obviously.
  6. One more reason I like WAR so much now - I look at Baseball-Reference and Holt had a 2.1 WAR last year in 106 games. He's definitely a valuable guy when you factor in his low cost. I like the fact that the Sox kept both him and Nava around. We have the makings of an outstanding bench.
  7. The Allure of the Cubs is growing.
  8. Will you guys settle for 59?
  9. If it was a 4 year contract it would have been reasonable value. The fifth year they got absolute zero from him.
  10. I liked Tito too but 2011 was clearly the end. 8 years as Red Sox manager is a long time. He left with a great record.
  11. Earl Weaver covered this one pretty nicely when someone asked him about the momentum factor. 'Momentum? Momentum is the next day's starting pitcher.'
  12. Just an unbelievable talent. Very sad that he died so young.
  13. The offense has averaged about 5.5 runs a game. It won't get any better than that. Some guys will heat up but others will cool off. Scoring runs will not be a problem over the course of the season. The dead horse is right in this case - our rotation will determine our fate.
  14. Here's something that came as a revelation to me recently. There was some sort of discussion about Mickey Mantle's career on the other board and I looked him up on B-R. It has often been said that Mantle hung on too long, that he was a shell at the end, etc. His last year was 1968. The big tragedy was that he hit .237. But his slash line was 237/385/398 for an OPS of 782. That was the Year of the Pitcher, and his OPS+ was 143. Not that bad at all! The lowest OPS+ he had for any year from 1952 to 1968 was 137.
  15. OTOH it was pretty well documented that Maddon had a lot to do with the Rays blowing Game 5 to us - pulling Kazmir early etc.
  16. Apparently Hamels is a Slow Starter. Maybe that's why Benny Boy hasn't traded for him yet.
  17. I see what you did there.
  18. And to tie those thoughts together, I think we sound like pussies when we complain about a schedule that has 162 games in it. But I am Canadian and perfect.
  19. My question - is Maddon a good manager, a guy who gets the most of out his players?
  20. Only thing I can figure is that it was done to give the Nats a break because they're playing 12 days in a row.
  21. Hamels is another guy off to a rough start.
  22. What are some of the specific things he has said and done that lead you to that opinion, Kimmi? I'm asking this because, while I dislike him too, I'm not so sure it isn't just because he's one of those people whose looks and style can really get on your nerves.
