  1. When did Clemens lie? Hmmm...
  2. And striking out both Cano and Cruz in that situation was very impressive.
  3. Pitching pitching pitching. That's all we need.
  4. 112 wins is a lot to ask. But they only have to go 54-42 (.563) the rest of the way to win 100. So it's really just a question of how many games over 100 they win - assuming they don't get hit by the injury demon in a big way.
  5. Nothing wrong with those numbers.
  6. We've had way too many enigmas the last 3 seasons.
  7. He may have been. But run differential doesn't lie.
  8. They are an incredible 24-3 in blowout games. 65 games into the season and they have already won 24 games by 5 runs or more! That's nuts.
  9. Pace means something when you maintain it. Tiger Woods won all his majors when he took the lead fairly early and stayed there, crushing everybody else's hopes. In none of his 14 major championship wins did he trail going to the final round. He was the ultimate front-runner.
  10. There I disagree. You have a much better chance of having a great season if you get off to a great start. Roger Maris couldn't have hit 61 homers if he only had 20 at the All-Star break.
  11. I don't expect the Cubs to win 112 games but I think they'll win 100 without too much difficulty. They have been outstanding in all phases of the game. Their record isn't smoke and mirrors.
  12. My interpretation of what you're saying is that pace means nothing when it's obviously going to be a very difficult pace to maintain.
  13. Having given it some thought I have to admit that my PED comments about Nomar were only fueled by my grudge against him for his malcontent act in 2004. To me he'll always be the guy who tried to sabotage our dream season, and the guy we had to get rid of to make it happen.
  14. It just demonstrates what a horrific pitching situation the Cherington-Lucchino brain trust left us with.
  15. I think it was more like until his failed contract negotiations and the Sox almost trading him that offseason. He took it very badly. Manny moved on from almost being traded and had another excellent season.
  16. First Talksox thread ever with a lot of wasted pages!
  17. LOL, probably not. But Miley hasn't been any gem. And durability was about his only long suit.
  18. Yes, there were doubts about how he got hurt in 2004 and suspicions he was lying about it. He acted like a total a-hole that year. What happened to him served him right IMO.
  19. Nomar has a double cloud over him. One is PED's, which has a lot to do with the SI cover. The other is that he parted from the team on bad terms in a historical year for the team.
  20. I'm not turning up my nose, but there are some major issues with each of them. Kennedy - why would a contending team like the Royals make him available? Santana - probably available, but he has horrible numbers - less than 5.5 IP per start, 5 ER given up in each of his last 3 starts - and he's owed about $35 million.
  21. Oddly enough, in these NBA playoffs the games have usually been decided well before the last 2 minutes and if you tuned in then you'd see nothing but garbage time.
  22. The thing about a pitcher like Wilson with a 4 ERA is that if your luck is bad you're going to catch him on one of those nights where he's got his best stuff. Mike Mussina said that over the course of a season with 32 starts he would have 8 starts where everything was working, 16 where something was working and 8 where nothing was working.
  23. No question.
  24. I think they were quite happy with the Swihart-Young tandem until Swihart's unfortunate injury.
