  1. Not necessarily, the Price signing might be more of an 'about face' in policy triggered by desperation.
  2. No. But I'm questioning what kind of pitcher you can get for mid-tier prospects.
  3. Hard to say. It's quite possible the Sox FO felt both Lester and Lackey were too old.
  4. The back end/depth of our rotation is an enigma factory.
  5. When was the last time the Sox acquired a good starting pitcher at the deadline for mid-tier prospects?
  6. There is none. Just speculation.
  7. It's a little surprising no one has called for our pitching coach's head yet. Of course, no one really knows what he does.
  8. Hey, we need one feel-good thread.
  9. And the money he's costing is just about equal to Lackey's total salary for the same time frame.
  10. Also, Buch gave up 12 baserunners in 5.1 IP. A WHIP of 2.25 is indisputably bad.
  11. Craig still has less than 5 years service time.
  12. I don't consider myself a doom & gloomer, but it's pretty freakin' depressing when you give up 30 runs in 4 games and 3 of those games were started by our best starters. Do you see any hope for this pitching staff getting better?
  13. That was Slasher, who said 'Clays fangraphs value will be north of 13mm by the time the season is done', which was wishful thinking, and in any event has nothing to do with Pedroia.
  14. The game was over after the 1st inning. 4 earned runs, 7 hits and 5 walks in 5.1 IP - you can get that from a lot of stiffs. Clay is doing nothing with this final chance.
  15. Yeah, who needs a guy with a 2.6 bWAR in 73 games making 13 million.
  16. I think you're overstating the 'love affair' a wee bit, considering that the Sox didn't sign Drew until Middlebrooks got injured at the end of May.
  17. The way things are going, acquiring a starter at the deadline will be a non-issue.
  18. I don't think that's really the case. I think a handful of people said it was a no brainer. Which gave rise to another handful making fun of the term no brainer. The rest are mostly fence sitters like me. I think exercising his option was a coin toss, and they guessed the wrong side.
  19. We are just giving up far too many runs. The last 3 games we've had our 3 best starters going and we've given up 24 runs.
  20. I wonder if there are any superstitious Cubs fans who are thinking 'I sorta hope the Marlins don't make the playoffs.'
  21. Now name the team that's going to trade us a front line pitcher and wants Pedroia.
  22. Not like Jim Rice though. Jim Ed was the king of the double play ball.
  23. 5 words: enjoy it while it lasts.
