  1. Which particular years did ya have in mind?
  2. Young players are still doing well this year. Our offense is carrying on like it did at the end of last year. It's one of the points in his favor.
  3. I'm surprised no one is making any connection between Buchholz's performance this year and possible residual medical issues. He's not an old man. He was pitching great before getting hurt last year. After his 'rehabilitation' he can't pitch for crap. He might be in the same type of condition Lackey was in before his TJ surgery. I have little faith in our medical staff.
  4. This comment makes no sense whatsoever.
  5. Holy crap, if Leon gets any hotter he'll spontaneously combust.
  6. The Texas catcher is the only guy in either lineup who doesn't have a hit today.
  7. Shuffle this lineup so we can get some damn offense going!
  8. Theoretically we could have. In reality the offers for Buchholz may have been lousy. What about his medical issues? As I said there were numerous comments about him looking like a TJ candidate because of the nature of his injury last year.
  9. Austin Jackson is a virtual washout since being traded by the Tigers.
  10. As has been discussed on here at some length, the Sox did reportedly offer Clay to Seattle in the Carson Smith trade, but Seattle preferred Miley. Once Miley was gone we were down another starting pitcher, so they probably decided they should keep Buchholz at that point.
  11. Of course my criteria is flawed. But my post is a followup to the Buchholz vs. Fister comparison, where Kimmi focused on the fact that Clay was much better than Fister in 2015. As you say, there are a lot of criteria to take into account.
  12. What he gave up in the trade for Price was also quite reasonable.
  13. If you use the following criteria: 1) Recent results 2) State of health at the end of the season 3) Price tag Rich Hill was more of a no-brainer than Clay was.
  14. That's about as likely as you guys bringing back Billy Martin.
  15. Interesting stat, we're 23-9 in Holt's starts.
  16. You have to at least acknowledge that there were legitimate alternatives to Clay. IMO, all of them including Clay had various levels of risk, factored into their pricing, and none of them reached the assurance level of a 'no-brainer'.
  17. But how do ballplayers as a class compare to other classes in the same income tax brackets.
  18. The Mets really kicked the Cubs asses this weekend without a doubt.
  19. Dombrowski has a rep as a 'win now' guy, but does he have any sort of history of 'gutting the farm for a rental'? None that I'm aware of.
  20. One more point about Buchholz. When the details of his injury came out last year, I heard more than one more person describe it as 'the type of injury that is often a precursor to TJ surgery'. At this point I'm wondering if he still has some health issues, because obviously he's not throwing the ball as well as he was before he got injured last year. And as we've seen many times there are some issues that tend to get past our crack medical staff.
  21. Thank you Mariners indeed.
  22. Squaring up for the individual tax liabilities would presumably be part of the backroom deal.
  23. Not true. What about Fister? He has better career numbers than Clay and he signed for $7 million.
  24. But again, said pitcher missed the second half for the second time in 3 years. He's very unreliable, and maybe he was not the best choice considering the overall state of our rotation.
