  1. As disappointing as Mookie's current numbers are, if he gets hot he can still end up with another excellent season.
  2. I'd rather they do it this afternoon.
  3. I hear what you're saying. I don't think anyone fully understands what causes all the hot and cold streak stuff. My attitude is that managers get paid to make these decisions, and on a major league ballclub I assume they are getting a lot of statistical and anecdotal input that we don't necessarily have.
  4. You said a guy with a .966 OPS in August should be riding the bench. I thought that was wrong so I pointed it out.
  5. Just not my thing.
  6. The only explanation I can see is that they're giving Holt a full opportunity to turn it around after being out so long. If he keeps floundering they really do have to cut him loose fairly soon.
  7. Personally I just let Farrell figure it out...there will be some mixing and matching obviously.
  8. Moreland has a .966 OPS in August. He shouldn't be riding the bench. Back to the drawing board with you.
  9. It is enigmatic how he's been owning us lately.
  10. 2-0. Plus Betances ended up getting him out.
  11. Just about any move a baseball GM makes, other than the really minor ones, involves the risk of failure.
  12. Did you see our brilliant discussion on Herb Washington?
  13. Bradley 9 Nunez 1 Betts 2 If Bradley and Nunez make outs Mookie does not come to the plate.
  14. He did have a clutch hit off Robertson last night that didn't pay off, unfortunately. We have a number of guys who are underperforming so you can't pin it all on one guy.
  15. What also got kind of buried in this story is that, for better or worse, there appear to be some genuine hard feelings toward Eckersley in the Sox clubhouse going back a few years, as documented by the picture with JBJ thing.
  16. I like conundrums as well.
  17. And we've got a 4 gamer in Cleveland starting tomorrow night. Need today's game badly.
  18. The first inning of last night's game once again demonstrated that many umps have a difficult time accurately calling balls and strikes. Sale had at least one clearcut strike called a ball and at least one borderline strike called a ball, so you're thinking, okay, tight strike zone tonight. Then our leadoff hitter gets rung up on a pitch about six inches outside.
  19. Now that you mention it...thanks Dave!
  20. The injury might have played a role, but we'll never know for sure. In MLB negative stuff can snowball and a guy just can't come out of a bad stretch that season.
  21. Holt is only 29, and the team should know if he's lost some speed. If he has, then yes it was probably a bad call.
  22. The Recency Effect.
  23. He was 26 out of 32 in his career before that. He may be slower these days, but that's a different question.
