  1. I didn't specifically mention Devers, but he's a long term asset, is he not? The fact is that a lot of people were howling for a trade for a bat and none happened.
  2. And if he never has another GM job, we will have very little on which to judge his true abilities.
  3. Ben did leave the team pretty destitute in the pitching department.
  4. I'm not really so sure we did 'go for broke'. Obviously we did trade a lot of prospects but in some respects the team has actually shown some restraint - not going over the luxury tax limit and not making any big deals at the deadline. Also, Dombrowski has done next to nothing when it comes to adding bats - all his major moves have been for pitching.
  5. There was really no need for 2 'distants', thank you very much.
  6. ??? Yanks are in Cleveland for 4 unless somebody redid the schedule.
  7. Trap game...good call.
  8. Kimmi, I was just joking about the idea of winning a World Series (or 3) during our window. It's been said, not just by you, that doing this is the only thing that can really justify an approach like Dombrowski's. And yet on the other hand it's also frequently said, not just by you, that the playoffs are a crapshoot. Which of course means that we could make the playoffs 4 years in a row and win no titles. That's really all I'm getting at.
  9. His .716 OPS at Pawtucket this year is somewhat concerning. Not showing much power.
  10. Leapt and leaped are both acceptable. I like leapt myself...a little more colorful or something.
  11. Funny how that 'playoffs are a crapshoot' thing sometimes seems to get tossed out the window.
  12. I had some chuckles myself reading the last couple of pages.
  13. Well done, slash, well done.
  14. On the topic of rain delays and how they're handled by the decision-makers, the Yankees game yesterday was a major debacle. The start of the game was delayed about 90 minutes even though it hadn't started raining yet, and as it turned out if they had started on time they would have gotten it in on time. Instead it wasn't over until 7.5 hours after the scheduled start.
  15. What shall they do with this guy?
  16. There are Johnny Neurons everywhere.
  17. Home Run Derby Jinx!
  18. I was only guessing so I'll just bow out gracefully. This game is postponed until August 14.
  19. That's for sure.
  20. I could be wrong but I think our Atlantic weather is a little more difficult to predict. 'Noreasters' and hurricanes for example are notoriously subject to changing course.
  21. I wonder if it's because the weather forecasts are presumably more accurate now. Of course Boston being perched on the ocean can still screw up forecasts.
  22. Thank you Tiggers!
  23. He'll be back tomorrow night. Great thread.
