  1. Staying around the luxury tax threshold every year as they have been isn't exactly cheaping out, in my books.
  2. Maybe, but I don't think that was the reason. And it's not like he hired some famous retread, he went for new blood.
  3. Yeah, but he's been saying it forever. That wipes out the credit.
  4. The Sox spend plenty. The Dodgers are the one team out of 30 acting like the penalties don't matter.
  5. Arguably just necessary acquisitions. Depends what you call making a splash. When I think splash moves I think moves made mainly to please the fans.
  6. It's very similar to the Sox firing Farrell. We'll never know all the real reasons for the moves - only Dombrowski and Cashman know.
  7. Give me an example of him 'making a splash' since he joined the Sox.
  8. Yeah, after all they've only won the division 2 years in a row after finishing last the 2 previous years. Such terrible incompetence!
  9. moon, in the history of salary dumps, are there any examples of the team doing the dumping taking back something like HanRam's remaining contract - a potential 2 year, $44 million liability for them?
  10. Shaughnessy has written numerous stories about Adrian Gonzalez being 'The Cooler', a guy who seems to consistently bring bad luck to his current team. The crazy thing is that the facts seem to back that up. This year the Dodgers were barely above .500 in the 90 or so games he played.
  11. I think it's possible that Kershaw has matured and learned how to deal with pressure better. The same may be true of Verlander. He struggled earlier in his career in the postseason. Hopefully the same will be true of Price. Of course there may be some randomness in there too.
  12. I'm thinking Brock Holt will be back after all.
  13. If we're trading Benintendi, we're trading him for GFS (Stanton).
  14. As one of the Twitter commenters notes, this is the 4th surgery since our GM said there'd be none.
  15. You are indeed the Stealth Bombers.
  16. Votto is on a team that should be rebuilding.
  17. I was surprised to say the least that Dave didn't let Kershaw pitch the 8th...the best in the game and you're pulling him at 83 pitches for Brandon Morrow? It takes some balls to do that. The studio commentators on Sportsnet, Gregg Zaun and Justin Morneau, were equally surprised. I'm sort of hoping for the Stros but I do like Dave and I'll be very happy for him if they win.
  18. Trading Shaw for Thornburg was a bad move alright, but hardly a fireable offense.
  19. A lot of buzz that Girardi won't be back. The Yanks have an interesting way of doing business - the contracts of both Girardi and Cashman expire October 31 and there's no official word yet on either of them. Cashman will be back obviously. He has been one of the best in the business recently. What's a little odd is that if in fact the Yanks don't plan on bringing Girardi back they're watching the pool of managerial candidates shrink. Maybe they already have their guy.
  20. My main hope for Bogey is that his weak finish was largely a result of the hand injury and that he'll be 100% in 2018.
  21. Sounds good, but why will Robertson & Gardner be gone?
  22. If Votto really cared about winning he would want to leave Cincy, a lot. Their best season in the last 3 is 68-94! Maybe he's more comfortable with losing than you realize.
  23. 'Rebound the moribund' - that's our rallying cry for 2018 LOL
