The Dodgers reportedly wanted the Marlins to take either A-Gon or Kazmir plus eat 30 million of Stanton's contract. One reason the Dodgers reportedly weren't as keen as the Yanks was the prospect of Stanton being a DH type in the last few years of his contract. Sometimes the DH rule difference can be a significant factor in player transactions - maybe that's a good reason they should unify the league rules one way or the other.

Stanton had control of the process here though. He got to pick and choose. It was a lot like a free agent signing.

It's a great deal for the Yanks, but from a Sox perspective it's not equivalent to the Ruth purchase/steal. For one thing, we HAD Ruth.

A hitter like Stanton will help the Yanks win some low scoring games, too, you do realize that? He's a 6-8 WAR player if he stays healthy. A 6-8 WAR player does make a pretty big difference in the W-L record.

He could. But reportedly Stanton only had 4 places he was willing to go, and Boston wasn't one of them.

With Castro going to the Marlins, this only adds 14 million to the Yankees payroll for tax purposes the next 2 years.

Kershaw is under contract until 2020. Were you thinking of Machado? They're easy to mix up.

I agree with you on a lot of things. We just quibble about WAR and such.

I'm just not sure Houston has the financial wherewithal to take on such a contract.

I don't really trust them to stick to that stated plan with Stanton now virtually dangling in front of them.
