  1. What exactly was Dombrowski supposed to do about the horrific pitching staff left to him by Ben? That is probably worthy of a thread in itself.
  2. Aren't you the same guy who started a thread called 'Debunking the 3 year window myth' back in August?
  3. Certainly no one can say you don't have a vivid imagination.
  4. Oh, I know. But the cliff is a prophecy of doom, it's like a giant black cloud you and moon continue to hang over us.
  5. Why too soon? 2016 was David Ortiz's final season. And we did, after all, succeed to the extent of winning the division the last 2 seasons.
  6. Most of us seem to think it's kind of pointless to project what the Red Sox are going to look like that far in the future. What is the purpose? What is the benefit?
  7. The system is designed more and more to make it difficult to stay on top for long. That's just the way it is. Bud Selig wanted parity because the more fans you have thinking their team has a shot at glory, the more money flows into MLB coffers.
  8. The first time in one year.
  9. I really didn't mean to imply you were stupid, sorry if it came across that way.
  10. BA alone doesn't really tell us much. Giancarlo Stanton's career BA is .268. Brock Holt's career BA is .265.
  11. That summary also predicts the Marlins will have to eat some of Stanton's contract.
  12. Fair point, but then look at Greinke opting out and profiting from it. There are still some crazy owners out there.
  13. A lot depends on what we see in salary inflation the next few years, with what Harper and Machado get.
  14. Interesting. I don't think Dave will deal Betts. I don't think he will deal Beni either. It's all just fantasy talk.
  15. The opt-out is a negative though. Especially for the Red Sox, since Stanton would probably love to play on the West Coast at some point.
  16. I'd probably trade Beni for Stanton. They play the same position. Stanton gives us that big power upgrade.
  17. You can always play those 'what if' games though right? Like if the Dodgers had traded for Verlander instead of Darvish...
  18. Thanks for reminding us of another great move by Dombrowski!
  19. I don't think it's a pipe dream. We've got the money. You don't think Benintendi plus Groome and something else would get it done? It'd be an overpay on our part, that's the problem.
  20. If Ben did in fact have a '5 year plan', they sure as heck spent a lot on Pablo/Hanley/Porcello/Castillo, all on deals that were potentially at least 5 years long.
  21. It's not exactly a red herring if we assume that signing both JDM and Hosmer would put us in cap hell again.
  22. The day that really sunk Ben was the day they signed Pablo and Hanley. And if Ben was truly opposed to those signings he should have said so. It might have cost him his job, but it would have shown everyone who he really was. Instead he was silent. Ben also appeared to support the way the Lester negotiations were handled. That didn't make him look good either.
  23. Wouldn't that mean he'll be pretty easy to trade to the Dodgers?
  24. Good post Dojji.
  25. It looks like Martinez and Hosmer will be roughly the same price.
